Sachin Tendulkar met Anjali, the daughter of Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta and British social worker Annabel Mehta at the Mumbai airport in 1990. Both had a courtship of five years and got engaged in 1994 in new Zealand. An year later, Sachin married Anjali when he was 22 years old.

Owing to his humble and down to earth personality Sachin Tendulkar has never been involved in much scandals but unfortunately he got included in a couple of controversies. In 2001, during the South Africa tour, Sachin was alleged of ball tempering due to which he was banned for one game. The ban was seen as a racist attack by match referee Mike Denness triggering a backlash from the Indian public. Another controversy involved Ferrari 360 Modena which was gifted to Sachin in 2002 by F1 world champion Michael Schumacher. Sachin was invited to Ferrari’s paddock in Silverstone to present him the car. Jaswant Singh, India’s finance minister at that time wrote to Sachin about the government waiving the custom duty imposed on the car but lawfully the duties could be waived only on automobiles received as prizes and not gifts.
