Born as Donald Hugh Henley, is best known as a founding member of the Eagles. He is better known as Don Henley. Don is an American Singer, songwriter and a drummer.

Early life and career

Henley, the son of Hughlene (McWhorter) and C. J. Henley, was born on July 22, 1947 in Gilmer, Texas, United States. He grew up in Linden (small Texas town in northeast).  His father was the owner of an auto parts store and his mother was a teacher. Henley’s father was dying from heart and arterial disease so he left his school to spend time with him. Henley graduated from high school in 1965. In his high school he formed a band called The Four Speeds with his childhood friends Richard Bowden and Jerry Surratt. Then he attended the Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. After that Henley enrolled himself in North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, from 1967 to 1969. After completing his education in North Texas State University he transferred to Los Angeles in 1970. Don in Los Angeles recorded an album with Shiloh, his early band. Soon after that Don Henley met Glenn Frey. Meeting her proved to be the turning point in his life. Initially, Don and Glen became the member of the Linda Ronstadt’s backup band. After two months of joining Linda Ronstadt’s backup band they formed Eagles along with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner.

Eagle’s released their first album including “Take it easy” in 1972, which was formed in September 1971. As Henley is a singer, so he also performed as a lead vocalist in many Eagles popular songs. The list includes “Desperado”, “Witchy Woman”, “Best of My Love”, “One of These Nights”, “Hotel California”, “The Long Run”, “Life in the Fast Lane” and “Wasted Time”. With this, the band became so popular and became the history as they were the highest selling American band in U.S. history. They also made their home among the top 5 overall best-selling bands of all time in America.

Unfortunately in 1980 during the recording of The Long Run, the band Eagles was knocked to pieces because of the personal tensions among them. But consequently in the year 1994, the band Eagles again reunited and again started releasing albums. Their latest album released was Long Road Out of Eden in 2007.

After splitting up with Eagles, Henley alone started his career as a solo artist. He with his then girlfriend Stevie Nicks in 1981 had duetted on “Leather and Lace” (her Adult Contemporary hit). Henley’s first solo album I Can’t Stand Still was released in 1982. His first album didn’t become so popular and was a moderate seller. Don’s single Dirty Laundry” became so popular that it earned a Gold-certified single in 1983 by selling over a million copies in the US. It also reached #3 on Billboard Hot 100. Henley also sang a song for the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) titled “Love Rules”. His next single release was “The Boys of Summer”, which was again a hit reaching the number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. His several other hits are All She Wants to Do Is Dance” (reaching # 9 on Hot 100), “Not Enough Love in the World” ( reached #34 on Hot 100) and “Sunset Grill” (reached #22 on Hot 100).  Henley then sang a song “Who Owns This Place?” for movie The Color of Money in 1986. The soundtrack of movie The Color of Money became so popular and was positioned #3.

After three years in 1989, Don released his next album named The End of the Innocence.  After that he released “The Heart of the Matter”, “The Last Worthless Evening” and “New York Minute” which again gained a lot of popularity. In addition with his singing Don Henley also appeared on on MTV’s Unplugged series. In 1995, to promote his album Actual Miles: Henley’s Greatest Hits, he released a next single titled “The Garden of Allah”.

Henley’s singing career got a pause when Geffen Records company filed a case against him. During that hiatus Don didn’t stop singing and recorded a few songs such as “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” for the film Leap of Faith, provided background vocals for country star Trisha Yearwood’s hit single “Walkaway Joe”, and duetted with Patty Smyth on “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough” and Roger Waters on “Watching TV” on Waters’ Amused to Death album, in 1992.

In 2000 he released his next album Inside Job and after two years a live DVD entitled Don Henley: Live Inside Job was also released in 2002.

Don Henley, the most recognizable voices in the world of music got in his first relationship with Stevie Nicks in late 1970s. After breaking up with Nicks, Don dated actress/model Lois Chiles for three long years. He then got committed to actress Maren Jensen. Moreover, he dedicated his first solo I Can’t Stand Still to his then girlfriend Maren. They broke up in the year 1986. After this he didn’t get into any relationship. After a long time, in the year 1995, he got married to Sharon Summerall (former model, Texas). He also wrote a song for Sharon titled “Everything Is Different Now” from the album Inside Job.
