Meryl Streep, the name which guarantees a huge audience, a blockbuster at the box office, has not just made the audience happy with her performance but has given each of her characters a life that leaves an indelible impression in our minds. An actor in the making

This charismatic actor was not made in a day. Streep got received her Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Vasser College in 1971, as she was instructed from the actress Jean Arthur. Streep is the spokesperson for the National Women’s History Museum, to which she has donated a significant amount of money (including her fee for The Iron Lady) and hosted numerous events. On October 4, 2012, Streep donated $1 million to The Public Theater in honor of both its late founder, Joseph Papp, and her friend, the author Nora Ephron. She also supports Gucci’s ‘Chime For Change’ campaign that aims to spread female empowerment.

She is an ardent supporter of a number of charities and causes including the Prince’s Trust, the National Woman’s History Museum, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Actors Fund of America and St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters. The Happily ever after

Hollywood actors have always been associated with multiple marriages, break-ups and a huge display of affection in public. However Meryl Streep is above all this and has managed to stay clear of the tabloids for the wrong reasons. In the beginning of her career, Meryl Streep had a three year long relationship with actor John Cazale who was a well known figure in the theatre world and was best known for his role as Fredo Corleone in the classic hit The Godfather. John Cazale passed away in the year 1978, while she was with him until his death.

Meryl Streep later got married to the sculptor Don Gummer, whom she met through her brother Harry. The couple have four children together- a son, Hank who is a musician, and three daughters- Mamie, Grace and Louisa. Meryl and Don own homes in L.A. and New York though they primarily reside at their family home in Connecticut.

I get into trouble when I opine

There are not many occasions when Meryl Streep hits the news for the wrong reasons, but when she does, it has to be because of her comments. In 2013, as the National Board of Review Awards, Streep, reportedly made derogatory comments about Walt Disney and got herself into a butt-load of trouble by getting in to the bad books of certain people. Apparently she labelled him ‘anti-semitic’ and a ‘gender bigot.’ The Walt Disney Family Museum later issued a statement rebuking Streep’s allegations indirectly.

Another incident that got her into trouble was when she made frivolous comments after Thatcher’s death.  Streep issued a formal statement criticizing Thatcher’s “hard-nosed fiscal measures” and “hands-off approach to financial regulation.
