KRS-one is a famous rapper from America. KRS-One stands for Knowledge reigns Supreme over nearly everyone. KRS also represents the Hindu god, Krishna. He is a follower of Hinduism. Regarded as a legendary rapper, KRS-One was awarded the Lifetime achievement award at the BET. He is in support of a vegetarian diet. His real name is Lawrence Krishna Parker.

EARLY LIFE AND CAREER

Around a Boogie Down Production Graffiti.

KRS was born on 20 August 1965 in, the Bronx, New York. He left his home at the age of 14 to become a rapper. He lived in a shelter and was deeply influenced by the ‘Hare Krishna’ chanting people. He was given the Krisna by his inmates. He then met DJ Scott and they created Boogie Down Production and they released their classic album ‘Criminal minded’ in 1987. He thus began his rapping career as one third of the Boogie down productions. Their album Criminal Minded Is considered to be a classic. It is included in the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest artists of all time. The album pioneered east coast Gangsta rap. KRS-One is considered to be the first rapper to start dissing. KRS-One is considered to be the first MC to introduce Jamaican music into Hip Hop. Scott La Rock was killed later though KRS was determined to continue Boogie Down productions. ‘By all means necessary’ was released in 1988. With this album, KRS-One changed the criminal vibe in his music to more socially conscious messages. They later released albums,- The Ghetto music, Edutainment, Live hardcore worldwide, and Sex and Violence. The albums were well received and had more political messages in them. 50 Cent in an interview regarded KRS One as one of his favorite rappers. After 5 successful albums, KRS One decided to pursue a solo career. His solo album, Return of the Boom Bap was released in 1993. It received an acclaim from the critics. It was a mainstream success as well. His second self-named album was a hit as well. He even appeared in the song of an alternative rock group, R.E.M. KRS-One pioneered the ‘Stop the violence’ movement in Hip Hop. This movement raised voice against violence in Hip Hop and African communities. In 1997, KRS One released an album named, I got Next. The album was a mainstream success. Though, KRS One surprised his fans by appearing in a commercial video along side Puff Daddy. In 2002, KRS-One released a gospel oriented album, Spiritual minded. The album received rave reviews among critics. Although, it came as a surprise since Kris had earlier denounced Christian beliefs. In 2006, he released the album, Digital. In 2004, he released ‘keep right’. In 2006, he released ‘life’. He then founded ‘the temple of Hip Hop’. It was an organization formed to promote the culture of Hip Hop. ‘Hip Hop lives’ was another album by KRS-One. It was historical since KRS One collaborated with Marley Marl. The two had a beef around 20 years back. KRS-one has collaborated with many artists through out his career. He performed in the event ‘Rock against racism’. He travelled by a cruise to Australia for a concert. KRS-One does not fly.

RICHNESS AND LEGACY

KRS One and 50 cent at a talk show!

Kris has a net worth of $ 6 Million. He is undoubtedly a legend. He pioneered east coast gangsta rap. He introduced reggae into raping. He was among the first very few rappers to introduce social messages in hip hop songs. Despite music, he is quite in other fields as well. He has authored 3 books. He has lectured in many universities across America. He has raised his voice against many important issues in the world. He made a song named ‘Self destruction’ which raised these issues. He has a very large fan base solely because of his lyrical prowess. KRS-one has authored a book named ‘The Gospel of Hip Hop’. The book addressed issues such as spirituality in Hip Hop. Kris has never been afraid to speak his mind and that has landed him into controversy, a lot of times. In 2009, he received the living legend award at the Urban Music award. He was the narrator of the movie, 2pac forever.

FAMOUS QUOTES BY KRS-One

“You know something, it’s best no to have what you need because then, you start looking for what you need and make it what you need.”

“The God of your understanding, has chosen you and you’ve agreed to be here in this space and time to do something, that only you can do. Now I won’t stand here to try and tell you what it is.”

“Instead of picking up our women, ready to mistreat them, you better get yourself a wife and kid and never leave them.”

“You grab the microphone and talk a good ramble, you the hardcore outlaw, criminal, vandal. Burning emcees like a candle, but you frontin’, you aint got nothing”

“You don’t want no man sleepin’ cheatin’ freakin’ behind his wife. There’s no such thing as make love, it’s really make life.”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY TUPAC SHAKUR

“Dre was one of my heros in the music industry. If he’s not down for his homeboys, I don’t wanna be a part of him or around him. “

“It’s the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they’re gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it’s my turn to leave. “

“… I love Shakespeare. He wrote some of the rawest stories, man. I mean look at Romeo and Juliet. That’s some serious ghetto shit. You got this guy Romeo from the Bloods who falls for Juliet, a female from the Crips, and everybody in both gangs are against them. So they have to sneak out and they end up dead for nothing. Real tragic stuff.”

“And look how Shakespeare busts it up with Macbeth. He creates a tale about this king’s wife who convinces a happy man to chase after her and kill her husband so he can take over the country. After he commits the murder, the dude starts having delusions just like in a Scarface song. I mean the king’s wife just screws this guy’s whole life up for nothing…”

”I started out saying I was down for the young black male, you know, and that was gonna be my thang. I just wanted to rap about things that affected young black males. When I said that, I didn’t know that I was gonna tie myself down to just take all the blunts and hits for all the young black males, to be the media’s kicking post for young black males. I just figured since I lived that life I could do that, I could rap about that. ”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY DJ PREMIER

“My crew used to listen to “Taking It to the Top” by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. My MC’s name was Top and it was just doing variations of that word. “Top.” If you listen to the old Gang Starr records it was just one line like, ‘Money’s growing like grass with the mass appeal.’ “DWYCK” didn’t have a hook, just a transition.”

“The mainstream has always been about exploitation. That’s nothing new. Once something grows into a larger audience, it all gets watered down. The decision to go mainstream versus underground is the fight that we all struggle with because we all want to get rich from our hard work in whatever craft we do.”

“My all time favorite producer in hip-hop is Marley Marl. He made the beats bang and he also scratched on the tracks that he produced as well as establishing a sound. I could always tell when it was a Marley Marl production. I followed closely in his footsteps when it comes to that.”

“Speaking for myself, I know how to juggle the mainstream and keep my underground ties intact. I love commercial music when it is done right. There is good commercial and there is bad commercial. There is good underground and bad underground.”

“I never heard an emcee rhyme like Rakim…and to only do 6 songs and 2 DJ cuts with so much originality and skill, when I heard it I knew that I had to make an album one day in my life… Rakim had the most deadly rhymes and attitude unmatched by any one in rap.”

Public Enemy Logo.

Chuck D and Flavor Fav met in their young days. Both of them were aspiring MCs. They once got a chance to record a song for the radio. The song became a local hit. It was released on ITunes and did a decent business. Public Enemy has performed in many concerts for free. They did it to raise funds and generate awareness for various causes. They used Afrocentric themes in their songs. Eminem threw accolades to Public Enemy in the song ‘Berzerk’ from Marshall Mather LP 2. They are considered to be one of the pioneers of Golden age Hip Hop. They also helped to define Rap metal in 1991. In 2009, VH1 telecasted a show 100 Greatest Hip Hop songs. Public Enemy’s song ‘Fight the Power’ was the number 1 song on it. They introduced politically conscious messages in their music and were a hit among the hip hop community.

RICHNESS AND LEGACY

Public Enemy has an estimated combined net worth of about $ 24 Million. They are considered to be one of the best groups in Hip Hop. They revolutionized Hip Hop in its Golden age days. One of the most influential acts in Hip Hop, 3 of their albums are included in Rolling stone’s list of 500 Greatest albums. The group was mentioned by Eminem in the song Berzerk. His lines were- ” Been public enemy since you thought PE was gym”. He said that PE will always stand for Public Enemy despite people calling it Physical Education nowadays. They included conscious messages in their songs which created a revolution among the black community. They have been included in Rolling stones list of 100 Greatest Artists of all time. Music by Public Enemy contributed a lot to conscious Hip Hop. They are regarded as one of the best rap groups of all time. Their legacy is timeless and will prevail forever.

FAMOUS QUOTES BY PUBLIC ENEMY

“The only time copyright was an issue was if you actually took the entire rhythm of a song, as in looping, which a lot of people are doing today. You’re going to take a track, loop the entire thing, and then that becomes the basic track for the song. They just paperclip a backbeat to it. But we were taking a horn hit here, a guitar riff there, we might take a little speech, a kicking snare from somewhere else. It was all bits and pieces.”

Public Enemy’s music was affected more than anybody’s because we were taking thousands of sounds. If you separated the sounds, they wouldn’t have been anything–they were unrecognizable. The sounds were all collaged together to make a sonic wall. Public Enemy was affected because it is too expensive to defend against a claim.

“There’s only one person to answer to. Dr. Dre changed things when he did The Chronic and took something like Leon Haywood’s “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You” and revamped it in his own way but basically kept the rhythm and instrumental hook intact. It’s easier to sample a groove than it is to create a whole new collage.”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY KOOL G RAP

“Growing up in Corona was like a little Harlem, it wasn’t that hard for a nigga to be influenced by the street life type of mentality. I was like 15 years old, Ma dukes couldn’t dress a nigga no more and at that age you want a little money in your pocket. That’s what gets us all, material possessions. A nigga got caught up in that mentality. Nigga started selling drugs at a certain point, and all that shit, it’s what was goin’ on in the streets … eventually all my friends got smoked. Everybody was droppin’. All my friends started packing burners everyday, we was wild shorties.”

“What I had was bad from my shoes to my pad. In the first time in my life loanin money to dad. Now the table’s turned and my lifestyle switches. My name is Kool G Rap, I’m on the road to the riches.

” So he fakes to be a man, but he can’t stand. On his own two feet because now he’s in a new land. Rules are different and so is life. When you think with a shank, talk with a knife.”

“ And it was a time when it was just a New York sound that was dominant throughout the genre of Hip Hop. And then it kinda switched over. And the cats from the South was struggling during the times of Run D.M.C., LL Cool J…When Hip Hop was a New York sound. Dominated the genre of music. You know what I’m saying? So, you can’t be mad at them now for coming up.”

“What are you yellow? You’re hidin like a coward and I don’t allow it, you get devoured. Cause you can’t cope, cause I’m dope and you don’t have a prescription, so just walk like an Egyptian.”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY MOBB DEEP

Mobb Deep, we our own energy, you know I’m sayin’? It’s not like we not all of a part of a big group. Mobb Deep is Mobb Deep, M.O.P. is M.O.P., Mase is Mase, Yayo is Yayo, everybody’s individual. Everybody’s gonna get taking care of one at a time. It’s not like we’re doing everything at once. There’s an order of how things is going down. The albums gonna come out in a certain order, so the priority is in a certain order. And basically, we self contained. We be doing albums for years. That’s why Fitty wanted to do the deal with us, ’cause he was like: “Ya easy.”

“It’s not like our own label. We don’t need our own label no more. It’s bigger than that, you know I sayin’? It’s so much money to be made and it’s so much to do. We don’t have time to run our own label. All we got time for is to go on tour, work on the music and work on whatever else businesses that we gonn’ do to make money.”

“Everyday we’re in the studio just workin’. We used to have a crib all together with a studio in the basement. As soon as we woke up, we went downstairs and started doing music. Now we bought our own studio outside of the crib. So we just meet up there and work on some music.”

“Basically the deal he offered us, you know what I mean? We in business, it was a business deal. So it was like bigger than a record deal. We got like side projects we working on, a book company different things happening like G Unit Clothing, Reebok and a whole lot of other things.”

The movie is based on the true story which took place in McKinney North High School in Texas. She also landed a supporting role in Bart got a room, which aired mainly on film festivals in 2008 before having a limited release in 2009.

In 2009, Benson signed her first contract with ABC when she agreed to be part of the TV show Eastwick. The show was based on the novel The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike. Joanna Frankel, Katherine Gardener, and Roxanne Torcoletti were three dissatisfied women living in Eastwick, a town in New England. Yearning for excitement in their lives, each of the women desperately make a wish for “something to change”. The following day, a furtive stranger named Darryl Van Horne arrives and begins courting each of the women in turn. Darryl eventually informs the women about their talents and encourages them to explore their unique abilities. However, as the series progresses, the three unlikely friends begin to worry about Darryl’s ultimate intentions. She played the role of Mia Torcoletti- Roxanne Torcoletti’s daughter. The show only ran for a duration of 13 episodes before ABC cancelled it, but by then it had already gained a cult status and following among its viewers. Little did Ashley know that something greater was in store for her.

Shortly after Eastwick was pulled off air, Benson was signed on to play the role of Hanna Marin in ABC’s hit show Pretty Little Liars. The show’s pilot episode aired on June 8 2010, and from then on, Benson has been an integral part of the show. The role Ashley Benson played as Hanna Marin was that of a popular, bold and daring girl who cares deeply about her friends and struggles with body image issues. Before Allison’s disappearance (Essayed by Sasha Pieterse), Hanna was an overweight teenager who was constantly mocked by Allison. Post her weight loss and Allison’s disappearance, she took her place as the ‘It- Girl’ of the clique.

STYLE AND FASHION

It’s hard to talk about one of the stars of the most fashionable TV shows on air without talking about her style and attitude. Hanna Marin has a very edgy, glamourous sense of style. Though the style is both glamourous and eye catching, it is rarely ever conventional.

Hanna Marin’s style on Pretty Little Liars

Ashley Benson’s real life style is quite different with the Disney child star choosing to play it safe with colours and playing with patterns and cuts. She does not stray away from fun patterns and bold prints. Benson is well known for her blonde hair and crystal clear blue eyes, two well known features of hers which she chooses to constantly emphasize on with good hair styling and sultry eye make up.

Ashley Benson’s style off-screen (Formals)

WEALTH

The Pretty Little Liars star is doing quite well for herself. Recently, the 25 year old actress purchased a $2.2 million house in Hollywood Hills. The house measures 3,085 sq. feet and has three luxurious bedrooms. It was previously owned by other celebrities such as Australian Pop Singer Kylie Minogue and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics.

Rakim

Rakim is a legendary Rapper from the Golden age hip hop days. His real name is William Michael Griffin Jr. He is one half of the famous Golden age Hip Hop Duo, Eric B. & Rakim. He is often regarded as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. His album, Paid in full, was regarded as the best Hip-Hop album by MTV in 2006. He was ranked number 4 on the MTV’s list of the greatest MCs of all time. Steve Huey of Allmusic said that, “Rakim is near-universally acknowledged as one of the greatest MCs — perhaps the greatest — of all time within the hip-hop community.” The source magazine named him #1 on their list of the Best lyricists of all time. He is the nephew of the famous R&B singer, Ruth Brown. He indulged in the Hip-Hop scene at the age of 18. He was earlier known as Kid Wizard. He converted to Islam at the age of sixteen and adopted the name, Rakim Allah. Rakim met Eric B. and they first recorded the single named , ” Eric B. IS PRESIDENT”. The single was heard by the owner of Island records and they were instantly signed.

Music Career

Rakim and Eric B.

In 1987, the Duo released their first album, Paid in full, and it went on to become one of the most influential hip hop album of all time. “Eric B. Is President”, “I Ain’t No Joke”, “I Know You Got Soul”, “Move the Crowd”, and “Paid in Full” were a few popular singles from the album. Follow the Leader was the second album by Eric B. & Rakim and was released July 25, 1988. The album achieved a moderate Success and sold more than five hundred thousand copies. It was declared gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. s ‘Microphone Fiend,’ ‘Lyrics of Fury,’ and ‘No Competition.’ were the famous tracks of the album. Let the Rhythm Hit ’Em was the third album released by Eric B. & Rakim and was released in 1990. It was lyrically more coherent than the previous albums by the duo. It received rave reviews from the critics for it’s dense lyrics. Don’t Sweat the Technique was the last album declared by the legendary Duo in 1992. It was a minor hit. The duo separated because of legal and personal troubles thereafter.

As a solo artist Rakim released albums such as 1997 ‘The 18th Letter’, 1999 The Master, 2008 The Archive: Live, Lost & Found, and 2009 The Seventh Seal. Rakim’s solo effort was critically accepted. He worked with Dr. Dre as well for a while but they separated because of creative differences. About his album The Seventh Seal, Rakim once said, he number 7 has a lot of significance. The seventh letter of the [Supreme] alphabet is G—that stands for God. There are seven continents, seven seas. The Seventh Seal deals with that and also some revelations in the Bible. Some call it the end of the world, but for me it’s the end of the old and the beginning of the new. By me naming my album that, I’m using it metaphorically in hip hop. I’m hoping to kill the old state of hip hop and start with the new.” He also appeared on Eminem’s 8 mile soundtrack. He once said, “The seals are from the Bible—Revelations and the coming of the Apocalypse. But Islam, Judaism, Christianity—all have a version of the same events. The Lion of Judah breaks the seven seals one by one, each imparting knowledge and inflicting catastrophe, ending with seven trumpets announcing the end of Times. After the Apocalypse, God rises from the ashes to recreate the Kingdom, taking only the greatest elements from the past with them. When you look at Hip-Hop, I want to do that: to spit fire and take our best from the ashes to build our kingdom; to recognize all the regional styles, conscious lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other. Lose the garbage and rebuild our scene. I’ve always tried to insert consciousness and spirituality in my records, interpreting the writings of all cultures and religions and how they apply to life in modern times.”

Rapping Technique

One of the most influential rappers of all time!

Rakim was known for his laid back, relaxed yet powerful lyrics. He has been cited as an inspiration by many rappers such as Eminem, Tupac, Nas, Kool G. Rap, Jay-Z, Biggie and Kendrick Lamar. His velvet smooth flow, internally complex rhymes and powerful lyrics make him one of the best rappers of all time. Rakim’s subject matter usually included, own rapping skills and Islamic faith.

Famous quotes by Rakim

Ra

“To be truthful, being that the game has changed so much, you come hoping for the best and expecting the worst. To my surprise, there’s a lot of love out here for me.”

“What was once easy became confused and hard, which brings us back to the mystic question, who is God?”

“I’ll take seven emcees, put ‘em in a line. Add seven more brothers who think they can rhyme. It’ll take seven more before I go for my, and that’s 21 emcees ate up at the same time.”

“Letting off ammunition in every direction, Allah is my only protection. But wait a minute, Saddam Hussein prays the same.”
