Danny Glover is a famous actor, director and activist from America. He was born on 22 July 1946, in San Francisco, CA, United States. He has acted in many movies such as Predator 2, The Color Purple, Witness, Saw and Lethal Weapon. He has appeared on various Television shows as well. He is an political and social activist. He has stood up for various important issues.

Early life and Career

Glover was born and raised in San Francisco. He is the child of Carrie and James Glover. His parents were active members for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Danny Glover attended the George Washington High school in San Francisco. He went to  San Francisco State University though he dropped out of the college. The university later awarded him a Honorary Degree. As a young man, Glover began to learn acting in a theatre nearby. Glover suffered from epilepsy as a Teenager.

Glover joined  the Conservatory Theater at first. He even trained at the Shelton Actors Lab along with Jean Shelton. Glover has credited Jean Shelton for the development in his acting skills. Soon, Glover resigned from his administration job and decided o become an actor. In search of more opportunities, Glover moved to Los Angeles. He has done various Television shows. He portrayed the role Sergeant Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal weapon series. He even portrayed the role of Celie’s husband in ‘The color Purple’. In the film ‘Witness’, he played the role of Lieutenant James McPhee. He made his directorial debut in 1994 with the film ‘Override’. He formed the Robey Theatre Company in 1994 which focused on providing acting platforms to Black People. Glover was widely appreciated for his role in Predator 2. He won the  Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for his lead role in ‘To sleep with anger’. He played the role of ‘redwing’ in the 1995 series ‘Fallen angel’. Glover has executively produced various movies. He has provided his voice in many children movies such as ’The Royal Tenebaums’. In 2004, he appeared in the movie ‘Saw’. He played the role of Detective David Tapp. He played the role of President Wilson in the movie ’2012′. In 2010, he acted in a Spanish movie named ‘ I want to be a soldier’. He starred in the film Donovan’s Echo in 2012.

Glover began his debut directorial venture in 2006. It was a film biography of Toussaint Louverture. He included the cast members Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Mos Def and Jonathan Rhys Meyers for the movie. In 2008, the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, annoucned to pay $ 18 Million for the movie. Many Venezuela citizens opposed his decision. However, in the Venezuela assembly, an additional fund of  $9,840,505 was announced to be paid for the movie.

Activism

Danny Glover criticized the policies of George Bush when he was the president. He called him ‘racist and unfair’. He was an outspoken critic of the Iraq-America war. Glover supported California Proposition 7 (2008) and gave his voice for the automated phone calls before the elections. Glover was given the title of Enyioma of Nkwerre in East Nigeria. Enyioma of Nkwerre means A good friend. He is a board member of TransAfrica Forum.
