Net Worth: $ 100 million

Profession: Actor, comedian, filmmaker, television host

Bob Saget, the man one is familiar with for his various roles that were funny, touchy, witty and above all highly entertaining. You might know him for his amazing hosting of the show America’s funniest Home Videos, or for his role as Danny Tanner in Full House or even as the voice of the future Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother. Some even remember him as Vincent Chase’s next door neighbor from the televisions show Entourage. Whatever it maybe, he sure is remember fondly.

The young talent

The young Bob Saget, who was all out to become a doctor was told by one of his teachers, who spotted the innate talent in Bob entertain people, to pursue a career in movies. Well, that advice sure seems to have done well for Bob.

He was born in Philadelphia but his family moved to Lexington, Virginia when he was very young. He attended Rockbridge County Hihg School before moving back to Philadelphia and graduating from Abington Senior High School, the very place that led him to pursue his inborn talent as a profession.

Later he attended Temple University’s film school, where he created Through Adam’s Eyes, a black-and-white film about a boy who received reconstructive facial surgery, and was honored with an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards.

He started off his career by performing stand-up comedy and did a number of national tours. Later, in 1987, he became the co-host of a morning for CBS called The Morning Program, for which he also wrote and produced content.

The Big Break

He got his big break in acting when he was cast as Danny tanner in the television show Full House, which became an instant hit with the audience and gave him the much needed rise to fame. The show landed in the Nielsen’s rating’s Top 30 from the third season onward. Soon after, he got offered to host the show America’s Funniest Home Videos. This was a huge hit with the audience as he took television to a whole new level. During the early 1990s Saget worked both on Full House and America’s Funniest Videos simultaneously, and in 2009 returned to Americas Funniest Videos for a 20th anniversary one-hour special co-hosted with Tom Bergeron.

In addition to the above, he directed MGM’s cult favorite movie ‘Dirty Work,’ directed and produced the highly acclaimed ABC television movie, ‘For Hope,’ which was based on his sister and her struggle with the disease scleroderma. He also starred in the critically acclaimed, Paul Weitz off-Broadway play, ‘Privilege’ and the Broadway Tony Award winning ‘The Drowsy Chaperone.’ He won a Student Academy Award in 1977 for his documentary film Through Adam’s Eyes, which he made while he was enrolled at Temple University’s film school.

In 2005, the audience got to witness a whole new side of Saget in The Aristocrats, a documentary about a famous dirty joke. He also became the narrator for the sitcom How I Met Your Mother that same year. Being best at what he does, making fun of his role, Saget also made a hilarious guest appearance on the HBO comedy series Entourage, portraying himself as a dope-smoking divorced man with a fondness for prostitutes.

Saget then went on to write, produce, and provide some of the voices for the nature documentary spoof Farce of the Penguin, a parody of 2005′s March of the Penguins, which was released direct-to-DVD, in January 2007.Other vocal contributors included Dane Cook, Dave Coulier, Jason Alexander, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christina Applegate. Returning to television, Saget became the host of the prime time game show, 1 vs 100.

In 2010, Saget starred in an A&E series Strange Days in which he follows others in different activities and lifestyles, documenting their adventures in unusual ways.

Did you know that he is probably one of the very few comedians who have been called both the worst comedian ever and the best comedian ever? Well, that’s a first.

He was paid around $100, 000 per episode for hosting America’s funniest videos. And currently he is being paid around $150,000 per voice over narration of the popular television series, how I Met Your Mother.

Dedicated to charity

It is only too obvious for him to be associated with an organization working for people with cance, since his sister Gay, passed away because of cancer. He is currently a board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. An organization whose to mission is to find new and improved therapies as well as a cure for scleroderma by funding major research. In addition, the organization funds and supports various Scleroderma Centers of Excellence, which provide multi-specialty clinical care in dedicated facilities throughout the US, including the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center. He is involved in many fundraising benefits, towards finding a cure for this disease.

Personal Life

He may be a man with all the charm and funny dialogues but ironically his personal life seems all too bland and well out of tabloids for unknown reasons. He presently stands divorced, being previously married to Sherri Kramer Saget. He has three children with his ex-wife.
