INTRODUCTION

John Madden, the legendary ex-football player was born on 10^th April, 1936 in Austin, Minnesota. He is better known as John Earl Madden. He played IN the National Football League. He has a lot of titles attached to him, which includes that of a former Super Bowl winning head coach of Oakland Riders in the American Football League, a former commentator for the widely known NFL telecasts. He was, in 2006, included in the renowned Pro-Football Hall of Fame. Besides the  game, Madden has also written several books and advertised various products on television.

FROM BIRTH TO FOOTBALL

John Madden was born in Austin, United States. His father, Earl Russell  Madden was an auto mechanic. While his mother, Mary Margret (Flaherty) Madden. When he was young, their family moved to a suburb of San Francisco, Daly City, California. He got his middle school education from Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In the year of 1954 he graduated from the Jefferson High School. He is married to Virginia Fields on December 26, 1926. The couple lived in Pleasanton, California. They have two sons whom they named Joseph and Michael.

PEEPING INTO HIS BEGINNING

John Madden began his career in 1957 as a football player. He played for California Polytechnic College at San Luis Obispo. He was soon selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1958 in the NFL draft. His football career soon ended following his knee injury. But this did not affect his spirit. He stayed back at Cal Poly from where he got his bachelors in 1959 and masters in 1961.

Once graduated, he began coaching Hancock Junior College in Santa Maria. He coached them for four years. Later in 1964 he was selected for the post of defensive coordinator at San Diego State. This gave him the memorable career with the Oakland Raiders. He joined Oakland in the year 1967 as a linebacker coach. Two years after joining, when he was 33, in the year 1969, he became the youngest coach in the American football League. It was under  his coaching the team won seven AFC Western Division titles and also victory over the massive Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI. He retired in the year 1979.

FROM FOOTBALL TO TELEVISION

He entered into the world of television in the year 1980, where he worked for CBS. His abilities as an orator, describing even the finest points about football. To add more to the essence, he used his perfectly timed humor. All these qualities helped him become an icon in the television world. In the year 1994, he signed a deal with Fox, worth $32 million, for four years. This contract was one of the richest contract than any other NFL issues. In 2002, he joined Al Michaels for ABC’s Monday Night Football.

Besides football and television Madden has several books to his name. His books became the best seller. Books written by him include “Hey, Wait a Minute”, “I Wrote a Book”, “All Madden” and the cookbook “John Madden’s Ultimate Tailgating”. Exhibiting his versatility, Madden does a radio show on KCBS from six to nine in San Francisco with the sports and news anchors every weekday in the morning at 8.15 am. His show is so much liked that his show is even repeated throughout the day.

Madden also appeared in television commercials. He can be seen in advertisements for Ace Hardware, Outback Steakhouse, Verozon Wireless, Rent-A-Career, Miller Lite, Sirius Satellite Radio and Tinactin.Madden also appeared in a brief movie where he played for a youth football person, in 1994, Little Giants and also in the film Replacements in the year 2000. He was also seen in the episodes of The Simpsons in 1999, “Sunday, Cruddy Sunday”. He also hosted an episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 1982. He also featured himself in a song “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out of”.

Madden along with Rayfield Wright, in August 2005, was selected by the Hall’s Veterans’ Committee as candidates for entry into the Hall in 2006. David was at number two on David J. Halberstam’s list of Top 50 All Time Network Television Sports Announcers by Yahoo Sports.

Madden was selected to be one of 13 California Hall of Fame inducted in The California Museum’s exhibit on August 25,2009,  by Governor Arnold Schwarzeneger  and Maria Shriver

Born on October 13, 1942 to JW Pat Jones and Arminta Jones as Jerral Wayne Jones in Los Angeles, California but popularly known as Jerry Jones, he was always interested in football. When he was small his family moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas where he did his high schooling at North Little Rock High School. During his college days at University of Arkansas he also became a co-captain of the 1964 National Championship football team. During this period he had seen unlimited potential in the business of professional football. He was also a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

He played as an offensive lineman in Southwest Conference for coach Frank Broyles. Some of his notable teammates were Jimmy Johnson, Glen Ray Hines, Ken Hatfield, Jim Lindsey, and Loyd Phillips. He is also one of those few NFL owners who is also a successful player.

He then graduated from college in 1965 and was hired by his father’s insurance company ‘Modern Security Life of Springfield’ at Missouri as an Executive Vice President. He even completed his Masters degree in business in 1970.

Recently, Jones struck a massive deal of $ 500 million with AT&T for his stadium which has a capacity of 100,000. His sports franchise and also his cash machine is worth $ 2.3 billion. HIS POPULARITY:

Jones has always been popular in the media and has appeared in a number of TV Series and also advertisements. Jones appeared as himself in a popular TV show COACH in the year 1996. In 1998, the character Baxter Cain (owner of the Dallas Felons) in the movie BASEketball was inspired by non other than Jerry Jones. He even made a cameo role by appearing as himself in the movie Dallas: War of the Ewings in the same year.

Jones along with his Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips and Quarterback Tony Romo were featured in a Diet Pepsi MAX television commercial in 2007. Jones also has appeared as himself in the seventh season of Entourage aired in HBO in 2010 and even for an episode titled Truth and Consequences for TNT. FINED BY NFL:

In 2008, Jones was fined a hefty amount of $ 25,000 by the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on the offense of criticizing referee Ed Hochuli about his overall performance.

In 2009, he was again fined for violating a gag order on labor issues.
