FAMOUS QUOTES BY TUPAC SHAKUR

“Dre was one of my heros in the music industry. If he’s not down for his homeboys, I don’t wanna be a part of him or around him. “

“It’s the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they’re gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it’s my turn to leave. “

“… I love Shakespeare. He wrote some of the rawest stories, man. I mean look at Romeo and Juliet. That’s some serious ghetto shit. You got this guy Romeo from the Bloods who falls for Juliet, a female from the Crips, and everybody in both gangs are against them. So they have to sneak out and they end up dead for nothing. Real tragic stuff.”

“And look how Shakespeare busts it up with Macbeth. He creates a tale about this king’s wife who convinces a happy man to chase after her and kill her husband so he can take over the country. After he commits the murder, the dude starts having delusions just like in a Scarface song. I mean the king’s wife just screws this guy’s whole life up for nothing…”

”I started out saying I was down for the young black male, you know, and that was gonna be my thang. I just wanted to rap about things that affected young black males. When I said that, I didn’t know that I was gonna tie myself down to just take all the blunts and hits for all the young black males, to be the media’s kicking post for young black males. I just figured since I lived that life I could do that, I could rap about that. ”

They have garnered this treasure as a result of their spunk and passion. Eminem inducted them in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame in 2009.

FAMOUS QUOTES

‘It seems like stupid America celebrates a person that says “yeah I’m a drug dealer, I’m bringing the drugs into the hood”. The reason why hip hop exists is because it started out with good intentions, once all the good intentions left the music became polluted, it became disrespectful it became immature.’

“I need a little help Jay, I got a little problem. A guy like yourself, maybe you can help me solve em . I only want to know why this happens all the time
(What?) Everywhere I go, I start to rap and rhyme . I rock them in the day (yeah you rock em every night) . I rock em when I left so def I knew something was wrong (alright). I rhyme when I am sleeping, I rhyme when I’m awake.”

“When I was nine I said a rhyme by putting candles on my cake. I just came from the bank (you said a rhyme?) A rhyme so funny. A song about the line so long they all gave me their money. That’s why I came to you, you’re my friend (yes that is true). Said maybe Jay knows what to say, he’ll tell me what to do.. ”

‘If you make a record about a gun, on that very same record or album there’s gotta be a record about not using a gun. If you’re making a record on the b**** or the h*es, there’s got to be a record about your aunt who worked all of the days of her life to send all her children to college,’

‘When we made the record for adidas we didn’t make it to get an endorsement, it wasn’t about business. We took positivity and made it gangsta, we never knew we would do something historic.’

My MC’s name was Top and it was just doing variations of that word. “Top.” If you listen to the old Gang Starr records it was just one line like, ‘Money’s growing like grass with the mass appeal.’ “DWYCK” didn’t have a hook, just a transition.”

“The mainstream has always been about exploitation. That’s nothing new. Once something grows into a larger audience, it all gets watered down. The decision to go mainstream versus underground is the fight that we all struggle with because we all want to get rich from our hard work in whatever craft we do.”

“My all time favorite producer in hip-hop is Marley Marl. He made the beats bang and he also scratched on the tracks that he produced as well as establishing a sound. I could always tell when it was a Marley Marl production. I followed closely in his footsteps when it comes to that.”

“Speaking for myself, I know how to juggle the mainstream and keep my underground ties intact. I love commercial music when it is done right. There is good commercial and there is bad commercial. There is good underground and bad underground.”

“I never heard an emcee rhyme like Rakim…and to only do 6 songs and 2 DJ cuts with so much originality and skill, when I heard it I knew that I had to make an album one day in my life… Rakim had the most deadly rhymes and attitude unmatched by any one in rap.”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY KOOL G RAP

“Growing up in Corona was like a little Harlem, it wasn’t that hard for a nigga to be influenced by the street life type of mentality. I was like 15 years old, Ma dukes couldn’t dress a nigga no more and at that age you want a little money in your pocket. That’s what gets us all, material possessions. A nigga got caught up in that mentality. Nigga started selling drugs at a certain point, and all that shit, it’s what was goin’ on in the streets … eventually all my friends got smoked. Everybody was droppin’. All my friends started packing burners everyday, we was wild shorties.”

“What I had was bad from my shoes to my pad. In the first time in my life loanin money to dad. Now the table’s turned and my lifestyle switches. My name is Kool G Rap, I’m on the road to the riches.

” So he fakes to be a man, but he can’t stand. On his own two feet because now he’s in a new land. Rules are different and so is life. When you think with a shank, talk with a knife.”

“ And it was a time when it was just a New York sound that was dominant throughout the genre of Hip Hop. And then it kinda switched over. And the cats from the South was struggling during the times of Run D.M.C., LL Cool J…When Hip Hop was a New York sound. Dominated the genre of music. You know what I’m saying? So, you can’t be mad at them now for coming up.”

“What are you yellow? You’re hidin like a coward and I don’t allow it, you get devoured. Cause you can’t cope, cause I’m dope and you don’t have a prescription, so just walk like an Egyptian.”

FAMOUS QUOTES BY LUPE FIASCO

1. “Oprah put It on my culture now if that aint wrong. Imus got it from the rhymers now if that aint blown, they gave my man 44 now if that aint long, I put it all on my shoulder now if that strong!”

2. “Now come on everybody, let’s make cocaine cool
We need a few more half naked women up in the pool
And hold this MAC-10 that’s all covered in jewels
And can you please put your titties closer to the 22s?
And where’s the champagne? We need champagne
Now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand
And now hold up your chain slow motion through the flames
Now cue the smoke machines and the simulated rain” – Lupe Fiasco’s Superstar.

3. “I’m not like the poster boy for Islam… I still got my flaws and stuff like that, so I don’t really wear that on my sleeve… I don’t go to clubs, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, you know like my whole – the whole groupie situation is shut down.”

4. I grew up in the hood around prostitutes, drug dealers, killers, and gangbangers, but I also grew up juxtaposed: On the doorknob outside of our apartment, there was blood from some guy who got shot; but inside, there was National Geographic magazines and encyclopedias and a little library bookshelf situation. And we didn’t have cable, so we didn’t have the luxury of having our brains washed by MTV. We watched public television – cooking shows and stuff like that.”

He worked with Dr. Dre as well for a while but they separated because of creative differences. About his album The Seventh Seal, Rakim once said, he number 7 has a lot of significance. The seventh letter of the [Supreme] alphabet is G—that stands for God. There are seven continents, seven seas. The Seventh Seal deals with that and also some revelations in the Bible. Some call it the end of the world, but for me it’s the end of the old and the beginning of the new. By me naming my album that, I’m using it metaphorically in hip hop. I’m hoping to kill the old state of hip hop and start with the new.” He also appeared on Eminem’s 8 mile soundtrack. He once said, “The seals are from the Bible—Revelations and the coming of the Apocalypse. But Islam, Judaism, Christianity—all have a version of the same events. The Lion of Judah breaks the seven seals one by one, each imparting knowledge and inflicting catastrophe, ending with seven trumpets announcing the end of Times. After the Apocalypse, God rises from the ashes to recreate the Kingdom, taking only the greatest elements from the past with them. When you look at Hip-Hop, I want to do that: to spit fire and take our best from the ashes to build our kingdom; to recognize all the regional styles, conscious lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other. Lose the garbage and rebuild our scene. I’ve always tried to insert consciousness and spirituality in my records, interpreting the writings of all cultures and religions and how they apply to life in modern times.”

Rapping Technique

One of the most influential rappers of all time!

Rakim was known for his laid back, relaxed yet powerful lyrics. He has been cited as an inspiration by many rappers such as Eminem, Tupac, Nas, Kool G. Rap, Jay-Z, Biggie and Kendrick Lamar. His velvet smooth flow, internally complex rhymes and powerful lyrics make him one of the best rappers of all time. Rakim’s subject matter usually included, own rapping skills and Islamic faith.

Famous quotes by Rakim

“To be truthful, being that the game has changed so much, you come hoping for the best and expecting the worst. To my surprise, there’s a lot of love out here for me.”

“What was once easy became confused and hard, which brings us back to the mystic question, who is God?”

“I’ll take seven emcees, put ‘em in a line. Add seven more brothers who think they can rhyme. It’ll take seven more before I go for my, and that’s 21 emcees ate up at the same time.”

“Letting off ammunition in every direction, Allah is my only protection. But wait a minute, Saddam Hussein prays the same.”

“I want to have fun. It’s a beautiful life. You learn, you win, you lose, but you get up.”

“Working with great people makes you great; you learn a lot and it also gives you the experience and confidence to move on with your own career.”

“I just enjoy life now. I just enjoy every morning I get to wake up.”

Jay Z replied to it in his track ‘ Supa ugly’ in which he mentions that he had a romantic relationship with Nas’s then girlfriend, Carmen Bryan. A new York Hip Hop station conducted a poll to rate the better track, 58 % of the people voted in favor of Nas. The feud and the album Stillmatic lead Nas to comeback as an artist. Stillmatic received rave reviews from critics and sold numerous copies. Eminem regarded Nas and Jay Z as the best rappers ever in the song Till I collapse from the Eminem Show. Jay Z and Nas ended their feud when Nas appeared in a show along with Jay Z and they both performed together.

Distant relatives and Life is good

Nas collaborated with reggae artist, Damien Martin, in 2010 and released the album ‘ Distant relatives’. The album received positive reviews from critics and sold decent copies. Nas said in an interview, “I was a big fan of his father and of course all the children, all the offspring, and Damian, I kind of looked at Damian as a rap guy. His stuff is not really singing, or if he does, it comes off more hard, like on some street shit. I always liked how reggae and hip-hop have always been intertwined and always kind of pushed each other, I always liked the connection. I’d worked with people before from the reggae world but when I worked with Damian, the whole workout was perfect”. A part of the profit earned from this album was donated to build a school in Africa.

NET WORTH: $15 million

PROFESSION: Rapper, RnB artist, Record Label Owner

Originally Jay Wayne Jenkins, he began his musical career in the year 2001 as an independent rapper. Shortly after which, he joined the band “United Streets Dopeboyz of America” (commonly abbreviated to U.S.D.A) as its lead singer in 2005. He produced his debut album under an independent label. The album was titled ‘Lets Get it: Thug Motivation 101’ and its song Soul Survivor (which featured famous African singer Akon) became well renowned throughout the world of RnB and rap music. The band and this single finally gave him the recognition that he had been waiting for and working towards. ‘Soul Survivor’ was featured in the list of US top ten singles and was internationally recognized.

There was no looking back for Young Jeezy after this. After the success of his first album, he went on to release a second album in 2006 titled ‘The Inspiration.’ The album was very well received by audiences world over who had, by now grown to like the rapper and his style. ‘The Inspiration’ topped the billboards top 200 within the first week of its release in December, selling nearly 3,52,000 albums in that period of time.

In 2007, Young Jeezy released their debut album ‘Cold Summer’ alongside U.S.D.A. Sales peaked immediately as the album debuted #4 in the billboards, selling almost 95,000 copies within its first week. This added exponentially to Young Jeezy’s popularity, giving him the appeal that audiences looked for.

In 2008, he released ‘The Recession’ which topped the Billboards top 200 in its first week, selling over 2,60,000 copies. By this time, Jeezy had begun associating himself with big names in the industry. So naturally, this album saw him do collaboratory tracks with big names such as Kanye West, Nas, Usher, Akon and post the release of the album, he went on to collaborate with other artists on their albums, resulting in a give and take situation of popularity, record sales and appeals.

After repeated delays, his album ‘Thug motivation 103’ was released in December 2011. It debuted at #3 on the billboard 200 and first week sales swept 2,33,000 copies. The next year, Jeezy had different plans. He confirmed on October 2012 that he indeed did have plans of creating a mixtape. It was called ‘It’s Tha World’ and it released on December that very same year. The mix tape was hosted by the famous DJ Drama and it features songs from artists such as Trey Songz, 2Chainz, Lil Boosie, Birdman and so on.

Last year (2013) Jeezy released a compilation mixtape with CTE world- a record label that was founded by Jeezy himself. The mix tape saw him work with various CTE world artists including Doughboyz Cashout and YG. The tape was called ‘Boss Yo Life Up Gang’ and he was featured on singles by both the artists involved. On September, he announced plans to release his next album ‘In My Head’ on iTunes on October 8 2013, involving collaborations with major artists such as Future, Usher, Ludacris and Don Cannon.

CONTROVERSIES

March 11 2005 saw Young Jeezy arrested for being involved in an alleged shooting in Florida which involved some of his friends.

In September 2007, he destroyed his Lamborghini in an accident that nearly killed him- Young Jeezy claims that this accident gave him a new perspective on life; namely on how to appreciate it

However, the most remarkable of all his controversies- one that truly risked ruining his career, was when he wrote lyrics that were both offensive and completely inappropriate. On March 4 2010, when Jeezy released the track “illin” with his group the Clipse, he was in hot water. The track had Pusha T, one of the collaborators on the album rap the following controversial lines

“No amount of record sales could derail this …Stuffing dead prezzies in the wall like that Yale bitch…”

This was in reference to a Yale student Annie Le, who was murdered in 2009. Young Jeezy was criticized for using this widely publicized case in a manner that demeaned the victim in the worst possible fashion.

BRAND ENDORSEMENTS

Young Jeezy has been named the mutli cultural advisor for the luxury brand of liquor called Avion Tequila.

He also has a partnership with luxury lifestyle brand “Gourmet footwear”

RIDES

Young Jeezy had quite a penchant for his Ferrari California, and recently, he picked up his second car, a white Bentley Mulsanne. He is also the proud owner of a white Lamborghini Gallardo 20” custom painted wheels.

PHILANTROPHY

In 2007, Young Jeezy took charge of a week long drive called Toyz n da Hood that gave away 1000 toys to 1000 children at various places in Macon and Atlanta in the United States of America. He donated over $5000 to the Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless charity run by rapper and fellow member of the RnB community, rapper T.I.

When hurricane Katrina struck, many celebrities helped out in various ways, but Young Jeezy was the only one who opened the doors to his home, allowing the hurricane victims to stay there, providing them with food, water and shelter while they awaited rehabilitation.

50 cent

The 21-year old Jackson started rapping in a friend’s basement. He was soon introduced to Jam master Hay( Run-DMC fame). Jay taught Jackson to write rhymes, count bars and make verses sound better. Jackson released his first unofficial album, Shut em’ down. It was not a commercial hit though 50 cent did receive some underground attention. As a result, Nas took him on his tours. He was supposed to record videos for the album but Jackson got shot 9 times 3 days before. He was severely injured and it was a miracle for him to recover. He was back from the hospital in 15 days and recovered fully within a period of 5 months. Jackson recalls the incidence, “It happens so fast that you don’t even get a chance to shoot back…. I was scared the whole time…. I was looking in the rear-view mirror like, ‘Oh @#!*% , somebody shot me in the face! It burns, burns, burns. After I got shot nine times at close range and didn’t die, I started to think that I must have a purpose in life… How much more damage could that shell have done? Give me an inch in this direction or that one, and I’m gone”.

After fully recovering, Jackson released a mix tape named Guess who’s back?. Eminem through a source got hold of the CD and invited Jackson to fly to Los Angeles. Dr. Dre and Eminem, highly impressed by 50 cent, decided to sign him to a $ 1 million dollar deal. 50 cent’s subsequent album Get rich or Die tryin‘ was declared 8 times platinum. It sold 872,000 copies in the first four days. 50 cent launched his own G-unit records shortly after that.

His subsequent project, The Massacre, was a successful venture as well selling 1.14 Million copies. Rolling stone cited to 50 cent, “50′s secret weapon is his singing voice - the deceptively amateur-sounding tenor croon that he deploys on almost every chorus”. In 2007 Cutis was released which sold about 691,000 units in the first week. 50 cent has been a prominent figure in Hip Hop since 2003.

Business ventures

50′s Mansion!

Jackson has ventured into various businesses and is a shrewd entrepreneur. In 2003, he launched the G-unit sneakers in collaboration with Reebok. Jackson has also founded two film producing companies, G-unit films and Cheetah vision. Jackson recently shifted his business efforts to Philanthropy. He launched an energy drink called Street king. A large portion from its sale will go to charity. He also founded a company named SMS audio and it sells headphones. He lives in the former house of ace boxer Mike Tyson.

Awards and Accolades

Eminem

The rap god. The lyrical genius. The king of Hip hop. Eminem is now a synonym to the word rap. He has garnered abundance of fame and treasure since The Slim Shady LP was released in 1999. He’s suffered numerous hardships in life to attain the pinnacle of success. He is absolutely an outcome of suffering and hard-work. He is the largest selling Artist of the decade. Also, He’s the largest selling Hip hop artist of all time with 32 million copies sold. The 41 year old Artist’s Business interests are limited to music. He doesn’t perform in as many concerts as other rappers do. His music is strong enough to make an impact and earn him abundance amount of wealth.

EARLY LIFE

Young Eminem

Eminem’s real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III. He is the only child of Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. and Deborah R. “Debbie” Nelson. His father left the family when he was 18 months old. His mom took care of him after that. They had to change places quite often because of his mother’s meager earnings. Marshall had to change schools very often. He was a small white kid in a town where mostly black people lived. He was heavily bullied in the school and once a bully knocked him so hard that he was in comma for 9 days. In his teenage days, he got hold of a few albums from LL cool J and Rakim. He was widely intrigued with Hip-Hop and started learning the songs right away. He used to stay up all night practicing his rhymes and raps. He met his future wife Kimberley Scott when he was 15. They soon began dating. Marshall then formed a rap duo with one of his friend and called himself MnM( Marshall n Mathers) which soon morphed into Eminem. He used to actively perform in whatever opportunities he got. He even took part in underground Battles even though he was white and unaccepted. In his youth days he worked as a factory labor to meet basic ends. He had a bitter relationship with his mother because of her drug addiction and paranoid behavior. Her fist daughter, Halie jade scott mathers, was born in 1995. He faced many hardships as a father because of his meager earnings. He, though, continued working on his raps and constantly improving his skills. He was signed to a small music label in 1996 and released his first album ‘ Infinite’. The album failed to leave an impact and did a minuscule business. Fed up with so many hardships, Marshall made an unsuccessful suicide attempt in 1997. With all these frustrations Eminem created an angry and sadistic alter-ego, Slim Shady, and used him in his songs. He launched his second project The Slim Shady EP in 1997. The EP featured constant references to drug use, sexual acts, mental instability, and over-the-top violence. The album didn’t do a very good business though it managed to give Eminem some underground attention. He then enrolled in the 1999 Rap Olympics where he stood 2nd. A guy out there liked him and asked for a C.D. of the EP. That guy took the C.D. to Dr. Dre and the esteemed rap producer was overly-impressed with Eminem’s skills. He called him over and they recorded Eminem’s first hit single, ‘ My name is’.

TREASURE GARNERED

Eminem’s home

Since the release of Eminem’s first major-label album, The slim shady LP, he became an overnight sensation. His successive album The Marshall Mathers LP was the fastest selling solo album of all time. Later, The Eminem Show was released which was another Blockbuster. This wicked white boy ridiculed celebrities and openly rapped about drugs and alcohol. He was the most controversial celebrity that time. Hip Hop was a black men’s game until Eminem arrived. Here are a few achievements of Eminem-
