Keri Lynn Hilson is a highly talented singer and song composer who for a long time has worked in the background. She has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry and is amazing at her work. she has worked as a background singer as well as a song writer. Hilson’s music style is generally R&B and pop, and includes themes around womanhood, sexual intimacy and love. She is well on her way to stepping out from behind the shadow of these big names and raise her own name as a solo artist. She was born on December 5, 1982 in Decatur, Georgia. Keri Hilson’s songwriting career started in the year 2001. She wrote songs for big names like Britney Spears, Ludacris and Usher. Keri Hilson was both the songwriter as well as the backing singer on ‘Blackout’, the Britney Spears album. In 2004, Hilson appeared in ‘Hey Now (Mean Muggin)’ by Xzibit. Two years later, she signed a contract with Mosley music group, the label owned by the music producer Timbaland. She then appeared on albums like ‘Diddy’s Press Play album’, ‘Help’ by Lloyd Banks as well as Timbaland’s own album Shock Value. The track ‘The Way I Are’ reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She also appeared in the video for Usher’s track ‘Love In This Club’. She was also a co-writer in the remix ‘Pt. II’. Keri also appeared in the Ne-Yo’s ‘Miss Independent’ video as well as featured on Nas’ single ‘Hero’.

Her first international single release was entitled ‘Energy’ and was released in the May 2008. The debut album of Keri Hilson, ‘Entitled in a Perfect World’, was released in the year 2009, following a number of setbacks. It debuted at number 4 in the US album charts. The next single from the album ‘Return the Favor’ received a wider release and became a Top 20 hit in the United Kingdom. The third single, ‘Turning Me On’ featured Lil Wayne and rose to number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The fourth release from the album is entitled ‘Knock You Down’ and features both Kanye West and Ne-Yo, demonstrating the respect that Hilson gets amongst the US’ hip-hop and R&B community. She is constantly on tours and performs a lot of live shows.

A Generous Philanthropist:

Hilson is a generous lady who is actively involved with several charities. In January 2010, she teamed up with Akon on the charity single ‘Oh Africa’ which benefited the underprivileged African youth. When a massive earthquake shook up Haiti in 2010, she was there in the forefront raising funds through recordings. On October 21, 2010 she became a part of the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour, a program aimed at promoting the importance of education and increasing the high school and college graduation rates. She also received the Get Schooled Award for her involvement with the program. She also contributed in the fight against AIDS by posing in retail-clothing company H&M’s celebrity-driven collection for Fashion Against AIDS. She worked on a project to prevent suicide among LGBT youth too.

In June 2011, she was made the ambassador for MTV Staying Alive, a foundation which raises awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS.  She also supported US First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign, for combating childhood obesity. In April 2012, Hilson worked with DoSomething.org to encourage young people to take part in the nationwide Epic Book Drive by bringing books to local people in need.
