Koenigsegg is an exotic car maker which builds high-performance sports cars based in Angelholm, Sweden. Koenigsegg Automotive AB was found in 1994 by Christian Von Koenigsegg with an intention to build high class supercars. Koenigsegg even after 20 years still has a small team of just 50 members and manufactures a mere 10 sports car a year.

 HISTORY

2

Christian inspired by a Norwegian animated movie Pinchcliffe Grand Prix, in which a local bicycle repairman makes his own racing car. Christian’s determination allowed him to turn his dream into a reality when he was just 22 years old, against all the odds. Just 2 years after the inception, Koenigsegg team assembled their first prototype, but its first ever car was handed to its owner in 2002 nearly after 10 years. Koenigsegg started as a dream for one man but it is now a dream car for many racers all around the world for its state of art design and technology.Early funding for the company came from his wealthy family and the loan from Swedish government helped it’s cause. Initially company lacked infrastructure but got helping hand from Volvo which offered wind tunnel and testing facilities while Saab helped in tuning the engine for Koenigsegg.

 FOUNDER

Christian Von Koenigsegg started as a car cleaner(summer job) and was famous for tuning mopeds in his locality. He believed that one day memory chips      will be storing data and started patent research but because of lack of interest he dropped out. Similarly in his teens he invented a new technique for joining planks together without adhesives or nails but his father-in-law and other floor manufacturers rejected this idea but a few years later same technique was patented by another company and is now a billion dollar industry. Even though many of his previous innovations failed he wasn’t disheartened and now holds patents for some of the leading automotive technologies such as Rocket Catalytic Converter, Triplex Suspension, Supercharger Response/Relief System and free valve  technology.

RECORDS

Even though Koenigsegg is a relatively new company in a sector full of competitors, it still has got its fair share of big records during its journey. Koenigsegg has four Guinness World Records to its name, those are:

 1. 0-300Kmph in 21.19 sec by Agera R in 2011.

 2. Fastest Production Car for CCR which achieved a top speed of 387.866Kmph in 2005.

 3. Most Powerful Production Car for CCR as it achieved 601KW of power and 920Nm of torque in 2005.

Even though 2,3 & 4 have been overpowered by some latest cars, so we can expect that Koenigsegg will try to claim those back with a new model. Koenigsegg One:1 is one such car as it has reportedly 1361KW of power which is far greater than its rivals and it also claims that One:1 to achieve a top speed of 440Kmph which if verified can make it the world’s fastest production car.

FEW FACTS

1. Koenigsegg company logo is based on KOENIGSEGG family shield. The shield was the family coat of arms since 12th century after one of the family member was knighted by Roman Empire.
