Rickey led the show to its highest jump in ratings in the show’s ten-year history. He has established himself as a clean comedian by not using any profanity or sexual innuendo in his shows, thus appealing to audiences of all ages. Early life and Career
Smiley was born in Birmingham, Alabama, United States, in the year 1970, January 1 to be exact. He is an alumnus of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham and then went to Tuskegee Job Corps Center, and attended college at Alabama State University , Montgomery, Alabama.
Smiley faced a few hardships in his early life. At the age of 6, Ricky lost his father (shot to death). Since then his mother leaned on her extended family to help raise Smiley. After all this, his grandparents took care of smiley. His grandfather had talk with him on almost every topic.
The entertainer Rickey Smiley is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity as well as the Kappa Psi National Band fraternity. These fraternities are known for informing the audience of his membership in his acts. Aside from these things, he is also a pianist and organist that he often plays on his shows and also in church.
After the great success of the BET’s “ComicView”, BET then quickly signed him to host “The Way We Do It” placing itself among the top five shows on the network.
Smiley together with veteran TV producer/director Roger Bobb created The Rickey Smiley Show, a sitcom starring Smiley as a comedian in 2004. The show is a sitcom based on his life, the attempts he had taken to raise his children. “The Rickey Smiley Show” is one of the funniest and most compelling morning shows in the United States. The show features the trademark prank calls, as well as news, information and the latest hip hop music. In addition, he also uses live bands in his shows. In 2008, to take his show nationwide he signed a deal with Syndicated One and now his show, “The Rickey Smiley Show” can be heard on a number of mainstream urban radio stations. • “Buried Alive” – Smiley plays a narcoleptic who works at a funeral home and “fell asleep in one of these caskets” who calls a cemetery claiming that “they done buried me alive” and insists he is calling from inside a casket on his cell phone. He then requests that someone come and “dig all these graves open”.
• “Uncle Melvin” – Smiley prank calls his uncle, as a man who believes his girlfriend has left him, and who punctuates every remark with the word “dawg” (“Is my girl over there dawg…tell her I love her, dawg”).
• “Pray For Me” – Using his “Granny” voice again, Smiley calls “Miss Ola Mae Benton Carter Jackson Glenn”, and asks her to pray for a member of her church, who had been:
• stabbed
• involved in an ambulance crash
• hit by a train
• had a leg cut off by the Jaws of Life
• shot “in the right eye”
Smiley then gets the woman to lead her in several verses of “Walk With Me, Lord”, each verse increasing in silliness.
• “She P-E-E-D” – Smiley prank calls an elderly woman using his “Granny” voice; the aftermath of the call causes the woman to laugh so hard that she ends up urinating on herself.
• “Is My Daddy Over There” – Smiley plays Lil’ Daryl and his brother Brandon as they call a lady claiming their father was supposed to return home with milk for their cereal.

Personal life
Smiley is a proud father of 10 kids, two of them are biological children and the rest are adopted children. They all live in Birmingham. He visits them every weekend. He also finds time to devote to church, to charities, to the Big Brother Program and to family.
