Why should I follow the crowd, the crowd should follow me!!!

Rush, born on 12th January, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, sticks well to the aforementioned epigram. He was never interested in following the tradition and believed in outshining himself. “Perhaps, if there was a black sheep in our family, it was me, because I never- I have never been a conformist”-Rush. He never had proclivity towards going school because according to him, it was something that everybody did whereas building up a career in radio was quite amusing. Though his father, Rush Limbaugh, Sr. wanted his son to have a more stabilized career but at the end the rebellious nature of Rush, Jr. won and he kindled the first candle of his aspiration when he worked as a deejay, with an on-air name as “Rusty Sharpe” for the local station KGMO (co-owned by his father)in 1967. Though he got himself enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University to comply with his parents’ desire but a crushing and an irresistible zeal had already struck Rush and it was the time when he had to shape that up.

Working as Jeff Christie in Pittsburgh’s and as Rush Limbaugh in Kansas City’s radio stations could not prove to be too sparkling. He was even fired several times owing to his highly outspoken and dogmatic nature apart from rude political comments, that he made. Ebbing career made him frustrated; he left the radio and started selling off tickets for Kansas City Royals baseball team.

When you have it, you get it

Norm Woodruff, a San Francisco radio executive was not less than an angel in Rush’s life. Woodruff insisted his friends, at Sacramento’s KFBK to hire Rush. Limbaugh’s career came back on track when he superseded Morton Downey Jr. and earned great popularity. Rush got to smash a real shot when Federal Communications Commission wanted the support of media (radio and television) to discuss both sides of political debates over annulling of Fairness Doctrine. As the time passed by, Limbaugh’s flair of humor, sarcasm and authoritative voice were getting increasingly popular and profitable. Rush then made a rush and signed with ABC Radio Network after leaving KFBK.

Stir up the controversy,dude..

Limbaugh is a big time supporter of capital punishments, claims that global warming is all lie and makes anti-gay comments for which he was once booed and heckled. But his strong opposition to abortion was enough to spark a great controversy when he made pejorative comments about Sandra Kay Fluke. Sandra is an American attorney and a women’s rights activist. In February, 2012 she was advocating over the requirement of health insurance to cover contraception mandate. Her testimony drew mass’s attention when Limbaugh called her, “slut” and a “prostitute” on-air. This happened when a third-year Georgetown Law student was denied with the opportunity to testify, in support of insurers covering the cost of contraception.

There were series of backfires from both the sides. Limbaugh’s probably the most exasperating statement was, “I want her to make sex tapes and post them online” added with a speculation, “She might have a problem paying for contraception as she was having so much of sex“. Sandra in defense said that, “The attempts to silence women have clearly failed and that it is a smear to distract from meaningful policy discussions”. Such outrageous comments by Limbaugh provoked nation and many supporters and advertisers of Limbaugh show pulled off their spots. Limbaugh did issue an apology but maintained his opposition to contraception funding.

The unstoppable

  • “Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
