Snoop Dogg is an American rapper, musician and actor. His real name is Calvin Broadus. He has sold more 30 million albums in his 21 year old rapping career. He was discovered by Dr. Dre in 1992. He initially appeared on Dr. Dre’s solo album, The Chronic. He released his first album named- Doggystyle under Death Row records. The album was declared 4X platinum. He is regarded as one of the most prominent rappers of all time.
EARLY LIFE
He was born on October 20, 1971 in Long beach, California. As a boy, he was given a nick name- Snoopy. At a young age, Snoop Dogg began singing and playing piano in a church. As he reached the 6th grade, he began rapping. He went to the Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He was arrested once for possession of Cocaine. He frequently went to prison because of his notorious drug related activities. He along with his cousins, Nate Dogg and Lil ½ Dead, and pal Waren G recorded many mix-tapes.
MUSIC CAREER
Dr. Dre got hold of a few mix tapes from Snoop dogg. He immediately signed him. Snoop appeared on Dre’s solo work, The Chronic. His first album was released in 1993. Doggystyle was a massive success. Tracks like ‘What’s my name?’ and ‘Gin and Juice’ were huge hits. Snoop Dogg was noticed for his soft, relaxed rapping flow. His lyrics were very different from the Gangsta rap Music. His second album was named, Doggfather. It was released after the death of Tupac Shakur. The album was a hit though it failed to be as successful as its 1993 predecessor.
Snoop then collaborated with Mater P’s No limit records in 1998.Snoop released the album ‘No limit Top dogg’ in 1999. The album was a massive hit and sold more than 1 million copies. The Last meal was released in 2000, selling over one million copies. In 2002, he released the album- Paid the cost to be da Bo$$. It sold more than 1,300,000 copies. ‘Beautiful’ was an extremely popular track from the album. He released an album named R&G( Rhythm and Gangsta) in 2004. It album sold about 1,724,000 copies in United States. Snoop Dogg has released a few more albums after that. They were very well received by critics. He even appeared in a Bollywood movie song, Singh is King. He also appears in the movie. Snoop Dogg adopted the name Snoop Lion after visiting Jamaica. He even released a reggae album. He is currently working on his last solo album under his original moniker, Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg has appeared in many films and Television series. He starred in the movies- The wash (with Dr. Dre) and Bones. He starred in the movie Mac and Devin Go to High school. He has played cameo’s in movies such as Half Baked, Training Day, Starsky and Hutch and Bruno. He has appeared in many television programs such as- Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Dogg after Dark, and Snoop Dogg’s Father hood. He has starred in episodes of King of the hill, Las vegas and Monk. Snoop Dogg is an avid Marijuana smoker. He left smoking in 2002 however resumed it again soon. In 2013, he admitted that he smokes about 80 blunts a day. He marries his High school sweetheart in 1997. The couple filed for divorce in 2004. However, they renewed their wedding vows in 2008. They have 3 children. Snoop Dogg is the cousin of R&B singers Brandy and Ray J. Snoop Dogg is a sports fan. He follows his hometown teams Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers and USC Trojans. He is also a follower of Oakland Riders and Dallas Cowboys. Snoop Dogg is a certified football coach and has been head coach for his son’s team. He is a member of the nation of Islam.
