Heritage and early life
Thaksin Shinawatra’s grandfather, Seng Sae Khu started staying in the Siam from the year 1860. Before that he was staying in the Meizhou, Guangdong situated in China. In the year 1890, in Chanthaburi, Seng Sae Khu gets married with the Thai woman named Saeng Somna and was blessed with the first child, Chiang Sae Khu. In the year 1908, Seng Sae Khu got settled in the Chiang Mai. Sak was Chiang Sae Khu’s eldest son, who due to the anti-Chinese moments in the year 1938 changed his surname from Khu to Shinawatra (a Thai surname). After him, whole family changed theirs surname too. In the tax farming, Seng Sae Khu tried his luck. Shinawatra silk was founded by the Chiang Sae Khu/Shinawatra. Chiang Sae Khu never stick to a particular business, he switched from Silks to finance then construction and then moved in the property development business. In the year 1919 in Chiang Mai, Thaksin’s father Lert was born. His father gets married with the daughter of Princess Jantip Na Chiang Mai, Yindi Ramingwong. Lert’s Shinawatra wife, Yindi Ramingwong was of Hakka Chinese descent. In the year 1968, Lert Shinawatra put his feet’s in the politics field. He became MA of Chiang Mai and also the deputy leader of Liberal party (which is now defunct). Lert Shinawatra left politics in the year 1976 and settled his own coffee shop. Along with the shop, Lert Shinawatra started growing oranges and flowers in the San Kamphaeng district of Chiang Mai. Police career
Thaksin Shinawatra became the part of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School when he was in the 10th class. After this he was sent to Thai Police Cadet Academy. After completing his graduation in the year 1973, he admitted to the Royal Thai Police. In the year he earned his master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in the course of Criminal Justice. Afterwards in the Texas at the Sam Houston State University, Thaksin Shinawatra was awarded with the doctorate in the Criminal Justice. When he returned back to Thailand he achieved the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Policy. Thaksin Shinawatra started planning for different divisions and fulfilled his responsibilities efficiently and effectively. Because of his tremendous performance he became a lieutenant colonel. In the year 1987, he resigned from the position of the lieutenant.
