Jamarcus Russell was born on August 9 in the year 1985. He is basically famous as an American football quarterback. Russell is now working as a free agent. As a starter he played the football for LSU Tigers and finished successfully by 21-4. Raiders then signed Jamarcus for about $61 million and due to this he did with them three seasons.

 

Early Life

He was born in Alabama. Russell did his schooling from Lillie B. Williamson High School. From his high school days only, he was keenly interested in football and played under Coach Bobby Parrish for about four years. In his debut year only, he played magnificently and took his High School to the state championship. Following this, he very soon received his first ever recruiting letters. His best performance was during the final year where he finished 219-of-372 passes. For his significant performance he received honour from the Parade magazine.

 

Personal life

Russell’s father namely, Bobby Llloyd was basically a machine operator in a factory and his mother, Zina L. Russell-Anderson was law firm secretary. He is also a cousin of Robert Jordan and Marshawn Lynch who is from California Golden Bears and of Seattle Seahawks respectively.

Of the famous Alabama station, his uncle was the well known radio host and a DJ too.

In the year 2003, he made a commitment to LSU famously known as Louisiana State University and soon became the 28th of the LSU’s Tigers. In his starting games only he led Tigers to a season record of 10-1. He was the fresher in the starting year but soon in the year 2005 he became the quarterback. He also took Tigers to the rank five soon and also made them to enter the SEC Championship Game. Also with Russell, Tigers defeated Arizona State 35-31 and in the next season defeated the same by 16-13.

Tigers lost to Georgia in the next season but apart from this he injured his shoulder, and due to this reason he was replaced soon by Matt Flynn.

In the year 2006 at the LSU, Russell became the quarterback again beating his opponent Matt Flynn and also Ryan Perrilloux who was the highly touted freshman. In the same year again for the Tigers it was a successful year because of Russell as he led them to a 10-2 record and also to a BDS Sugar Bowl berth. In the next game against Tennessee, in spite of playing poorly in the beginning he led LSU on a 15-play. He was also named as the Sugar Bowl MVP. By the end of the year 2006, he was mentioned in a very honorary manner by the Sports Illustrated.

 

Professional Career

In the year 2007 at the NFL, John Clayton of ESPN stated that the strength of Russell and his workouts were quite impressive for the other teams. His talent was called substantial by the General Manager of Cleveland Browns, Phil Savage. He was also selected as the overall pick number one by the Raiders. Along with the three players, Craig Davis, Dwayne Bowe and Laron Landry Russell was the one who was taken to the first round for the LSU.

By the fall of the year 2007, Russell was moved out from the camp as he failed to fulfil the agreement of the Raiders. But soon he filled and signed the contract worth $68 million for six years. In this contract he was guaranteed a worth of $31.5 million.

 

Awards and achievements

Russell has many awards in his pocket. Starting from the year 2005, he received the SEC Player of the Year from the Columbus Touchdown Club. In the following year he received three Offensive Player of the Week award. In the same year only he also received All-SEC award by the SEC coaches. He also received Manning Award in the same year only. And also was the semi-finalist of the honorary Davey O’ Brien Award. He has also received many cash prices worth millions for his play.

This contract that he signed was for about six years at a stretch and not only this he was guaranteed about $31.5 million in this contract. He was signed by ‘Oakland Raiders’. Further, he was also signed by some other brand and was paid a handsome amount worth $9 million at a stretch for the contract he signed with them.
