NET WORTH: $40 million

CAREER: American film director, producer and actor

Spike Lee, originally known as Shelton Jackson was born to Jacqueline Carroll, a teacher of arts and black literature, and William James Edward Lee, a jazz musician and composer on March 20, 1957. His popular name “Spike Lee” comes from his nickname given by his mother.

He had developed interest in the field of media quite early in life. Staying true to his interests and passion, Lee was making amateur films by age 20. His first student film, Last Hustle in Brooklyn, was completed when he was an undergraduate at Morehouse College in United States. He went to pursue his career from New York University Film School in 1982. His thesis film, Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads, won a Student Academy Award.

Lee’s movies had influential themes of power black community and race. Lee has a long history of struggling to get funding for his projects. Lee has suggested that his inability to secure financing is due to the fact that the majority of his films deal with black characters and tell stories from a black perspective—the kind of subject matter Hollywood has often brushed off as “unmarketable.”

Even though the cause and his subject matter were quite extravagant and deep, considering the political scenario, he was unable to procure funds since markets were comparatively new.

BUSINESS VALUE

Spike’s main residence is a 9000 square foot town home located in Manhattan’s most expensive Upper East Side zip code. This townhouse is actually made up of two separate three-story buildings that surround a private courtyard. The mansion has 9000 square feet of living space and was designated a New York City landmark. Spike purchased the house in 1998 for $4.75 million and today it is worth an estimated $30 – $40 million! The luxurious property wraps around an internal courtyard, which is home to a magnificent fountain as its centerpiece.

Bagging his grand property which is set off in one of the most prime locations, just off the 18th hole of Farm Neck Golf Club, Spike had purchased it in 1989 for $400,000. He then built a four bedroom mansion which is worth an estimated $3-4 million today!

The $40 million value that Lee adorns is a result of his diligence during his mid twenties. In 1985, Lee began work on his first feature film, She’s Gotta Have It. With a budget of $175,000, he shot the film in two weeks. When the film was released in 1986, its turnover rounded to over $7,000,000 at the U.S. box office. Today Spike owns a film production company ’Forty Acres and a Mule” is located in a three-story building in Brooklyn that was purchased in 1991 for $820,000.

SPIKE’S CAREER TAKES SHAPE

In mid-1990, Levi’s began producing a series of TV commercials directed by Lee for their 501 button fly jeans. Marketing executives from Nike offered Lee a job directing commercials for the company… Through the marketing wing of 40 Acres and a Mule, Lee has directed commercials for Converse, Jaguar, Taco Bell and Ben & Jerry’s.

The previous year, in July 2013, Spike Lee became the latest celebrity to launch a Kickstarter in order to fund a personal project. Spike was aiming to raise $1.25 million to fund his very own bloody psychological vampire thriller. It’s astonishing to know that, within a week, nearly 2000 people around the world have donated $400,000 to his project. Clearly his fans have conviction that Spike has a long way to go!

Spike has been a successful director and a producer with movies like “Do the right thing and “four little girls”.

CAUGHT UP IN CONTROVERSIES..

Spike has been a victim of some controversial remarks he made. In 1999, at Cannes festival, he made an inappropriate comment about the President of National Rifle Association, in 2005 again, he was insensitive to the Black Americans during the Katrina Hurricane Catastrophe. Some people even expressed their disapproval about him raising funds for his upcoming films through kickstarts.

LEE’S LIFESTYLE

Lee is married to attorney Tonya Lewis and has two children, a daughter and a son. Spike Lee is a fan of the American baseball team the New York Yankees, basketball team the New York Knicks, and the English football team Arsenal

While Lee continues to maintain an office in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, he and his wife live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Being an American who is settled in Manhattan, he finds American cars stinky. He isn’t in a hurry to buy himself an exclusive car and he takes a walk from his apartment to the production office of his film company, Forty Acres and a Mule. He finds it a challenge only in harsh winter time when cabs don’t go from his office till his house. When he will invest his money in the same, he would not go for ant fancy car, contrary to what the public expects from him. He says he would buy one that would give good mileage and will be safe!

Lee is quoted as saying that people have faults and that they are more interesting than people who are perfect. As for lee too, has seen success quite early in life but he insists on working on his faults

!

Net worth: $40 million

Are you interested in earning tones of money by playing a professional sport? Most of the young minds of the world today are. Then you must choose the sport selectively, yes it should be none other than the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s managed basketball. To add to your knowledge All NBA players are highly paid professionals with not only a high pay but a guaranteed 100% pay contracts. Not only this, but if you after being a NBA player do not play on the opening day due to some injury you will still be allowed to receive your pay check. Isn’t this what you want from all your contracts of playing a professional sport? What matters in the end is the money and what worth can that money makes lend to your image.

To add a cherry to the cake of the professional sport of basketball the tons of money is followed by the longevity of the career the players hold. If one of them is highly talented he would be a pro just after the high school like Kevin Garnet, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant who turned pro well before their 18th Birthdays. And yes these players definitely earn a huge amount to be played for.

OF all these highly salaried players one of them is Penny Hardaway with a net worth of about 40 million dollars. His major source of wealth is NBA and maintains a vehement fan following by his dedication towards the sports. One of the tallest NBA players with a height of 6 feet 7 inches which is approximately 2 meters and is married to Mary McDonnell. Penny was born as Anfernee Deon Hardaway on July 18, 1971 at Memphis. He weighs approximately 88 kilograms which is approximately 195lbs. Penny is now a retired professional basketball player and before which he has done his education from the University of Memphis.

Penny played as a tall point guard, the duty of a point guard is to make sure that the ball reaches the right person at the right time. He has to make sure that the game is being played according to the coach’s plan and also the role of a point guard can be compared to that of the role of a quarterback in the American football. Orlando Magic is a Southeast division of the NBA’s Eastern conference with notable players like Penny Hardaway, Patrick Ewing, Grant Hill, Vince Career and many more. Penny has played for NBA with Orlando magic and Phoenix Suns. Not only had these he also played for New York Knicks and also for the Miami Heat. Playing with such highly repudiated teams and association’s penny has made his long run to earn a net worth that is worth 40 million dollars.

There is a very interesting story as to why is he called Penny. As a child Hardaway was very close to his grandmother who called him “Pretty” which was converted to “Penny” as it is spoken in the southern drawl. Southern drawl is a type of language where the words are spoken in such a way that it becomes difficult for a foreigner to understand and the tone of the words are quite different than the normal and day to day pronunciations. The love and affinity towards the ball was since his childhood and he pursued a career of basketball in his childhood dream. Initially he began as a referee at the Memphis, his hometown, YMCA and later played on the Junior Olympic basketball team. YMCA is the young men’s Christian Association with more than 140 countries association as a part of the same.

As Penny was a superstar in terms of his games he has a lot of accolades to his career like the NBA Player of the month for November 1995. He has won the 1996 summer Olympics Gold Medal for the United States of America’s Men’s Basketball. He also has the credit of scoring six career Triple doubles that were in five regular and 1 playoff. Not only this his history suggests accolades like National High school player of the year 1990 and also Memphis high School player of the Year awarded in the year 1989 and 1990. These awards and accomplishments have added net worth to his career and a strong sense of his dedication towards work can be seen from this.

Golden State Warriors selected Penny for the first round of 1993 NBA. He continued playing for the NBA after which he worked for Phoenix Suns where he was signed before 1999-2000 NBA Season with a team fellow Jason Kidd. The NBA 2004 playoffs were led by Hardaway when he was the member of the Knicks. In this there were approximately 76 games where the average of the season was 9.2 points. His contract expired on summer 2006 when he landed back to Orlando.

Penny Hardaway has made a major contribution towards the world of Basketball as one of the highly accredited, well known and lovable players with an ardent fan following. He has not only lead the world of youth to follow him as a player but also maintained his net worth of 40 million dollars to be listed as one of the richest National Basketball Association’s players and in return be one amongst the richest people in the world of sports.

In terms of assets, Penny owns nothing in comparison to the Worlds materialistic beings. He has believed in giving back to the work rather than keeping things in terms of cars and big wealthy houses. He also has few restaurants being successfully run under his management and also he has been coaching under 14 basketball players after his retirement.

Net Worth: $16 million

Career/Profession: Retired Basketball Player

Julius Erving name itself creates an image of basketball in the mind of the thinker. He is being acknowledged as the most famous retired American Basketball player. He emphasized mostly on the play, which was played above the rim. He was the one who helped in authentication of the American Basketball Association. His talent was undoubtedly beaten the talents of various talented and identified players.

His Early life:

Erving was born in Roosevelt, New York on February 22nd, 1950. He was usually recognized as Dr. J in Roosevelt High School. In 1968, he joined the University of Massachusetts, where he played two seasons as a freshman and then left. Here he scored an average of 32.5 points in NCAA Men’s Basketball. In 1971, as a free agent, he joined ABA with the Squires. His interest was although in basketball only, but to fulfil his promise made to his mother, he completed his graduation in Administration in 1986.

Shifted from Virginia Squires to Atlanta Hawks:

Erving initially took a start with Virginia Squires and made a position in the team as a hard dunker. He earned an average of 27.3 per game and led the formation of ABA All- Rookie Team. His game took the team to the Eastern Division Finals, but unfortunately they were defeated by Rick Barry belonging to New York Nets. After getting the green flag for NBA Draft in 1972, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks. But because of his dissatisfaction with the team he decided to be with Maravich and joined the training camp of Hawk’s. He enjoyed working with Atlanta during his practice season. But as Milwaukee took him so Atlanta was charged with the fine of $25,000 for each game. In 1972-1973 his contract with Squires got completed and he was moved to New York Nets.

Traded off to The Nets:

The Squires went into debt with each game and due to this in 1973 they had to shift Erving to the Nets. This was the biggest mistake that Squires had done. Erving’s entry into the Nets proved to be the success stone in their career. They won the title for ABA in 1973-1974 after defeating Utah Stars. His position in the team made Nets among one of the best teams in the ABA and increased the fan following for the team. During his reign in the Nets he also defeated the Denver Nuggets in the finale of Swanson of ABA. He was entitled as the Most Valuable Player for the season. In that season he marked his name in the top 10 players of ABA. In his course of time with ABA he won two titles’, three MVP awards and three titles.

Philadelphia 76rs Star:

Some controversy held between Nets and New York Knicks. After this the Nets were asked to pay $ 4.8 million for NBA territory. Roy Boe promised Erving to raise his salary, but to maintain his principles, he refused to play and left them. After this he got offers from the Philadelphia 76ers for $ 3 million. This totals the amount to about $6 million. After leaving Nets the reputation of the team also went down and they were amongst the worst team in the league. Him with full dedication joined Philadelphia 76ers and this time his focus was more on scoring more and more. The Sixers won the title of the Eastern Conference after defeating Boston Celtics. He also took the team to the NBA Finals where they had to face the Portland Trail Blazers.

Stumbled down instead won many titles:

Erving considered to be the league’s best player for the season 1980-1981 and 1981-1982 even though the team Philadelphia was turned out of the playoffs twice during the time. In the Eastern Finals they were about to win the title, but unfortunately lost the game. Second time they were beaten by Los Angeles. Instead of these defeats he was awarded with NBA MVP in 1981 and got selected for All-NBA First Team in 1982. Erving maintained his dignity and reputation by scoring well in each of the games for the season. His average for each game being 22.4, 20.0, 16.8 and 18.1. In 1986, he made an announcement of his retirement after completion of its current season. In the final game that Erving played it was seen that the opposing teams such as the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers also came forward to pay their tribute to him.

Personal Life:

Erving belongs to Christian Community. He got married to Turquoise in 1972. But the couple got separated in 2003. In 1979, it was found that he was having an external affair with Samantha Stevenson and the couple together had a daughter named Alexandra Stevenson. In 2003, after getting divorced with Turquoise he gets into a relationship with Dorys Madden. And finally in 2008 they both got married.

Assets:

Julius Erving had a mansion in Utah, which he used to call St. George Utah Home. It covered an area of about 6572 square feet, which had five bedrooms and six bathrooms with a scenic view outside. It had NBA logo chairs in it. The house cost $2.2 million, but he tried to sell this at $2.5 million. It was also found that he was failing to pay the fines of $2, 100. The house featured home theatre which involved 150 inch screen. It also had five fireplaces in it with a basketball court marked with a Philadelphia 76ers logo.

Net Worth: $80 million

Career/Profession: Basketball Coach, Executive

Age: 69

“If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.

-Pat Riley

Patrick James Riley is a professional American basketball executive and a former coach and basketball player in the NBA. He is known to be one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time who has served as the head coach of five champion teams. Currently he is the tem president of the Miami Heat. He was awarded the prestigious position of the NBA Coach of the Year thrice. Recently, Pat Riley won the 2012 and 2013 NBA championships as Miami Heat bagged the title. In fact, Pat Riley is the only American sports figure to have won a championship as a player, as a coach and as an executive. He also received the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in June, 2012.

“Its basketball, man!”

Born in Rome, New York, Riley started playing basketball at Linton High School under coaches Walt Przybylo, Bill Rapavy and Ed Catino. During that time, the school game between Linton High School and NYC’s Power memorial, where Linton High school won by 74-68, will always be remembered for Pat Riley.

Even during his college days at the University of Kentucky, Riley was a versatile player and was named with several honorary titles, right from First Team All SEC, All NCAA Tournament Team, NCAA Regional Player of the Year, SEC Player of the Year and AP Third Team All American.

Pat Riley was selected by the San Diego Rockets during the first round of the NBA draft and was also selected by the Dallas Cowboys during the 11th round of the draft. Nevertheless, he joined the San Diego Rockets and later was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers but was immediately traded off to the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite all this he remained a not-so-special player and retired soon after.

“Life isn’t over yet”

Playing career over? So what? Pat Riley returned to the NBA in 1977 as a broadcaster for the Los Angeles Lakers. After the team’s head coach was injured in a fatal accident, Riley’s role transformed from the broadcaster to one of the assistant coaches of the team. Riley led the team to four consecutive NBA finals. During his tenure as a coach, the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA championship, becoming the first team in 19 years to repeat as champions. Riley stepped down as the coach of the team after they lost to the Phoenix Suns in 1990. He was still named the NBA Coach of the Year.

After his stint with the Lakers Riley took up the job of television commentator, followed by the position of the head coach of the New York Knicks in 1991. He led the team to the best regular season records and was named the Coach of the Year for the second time. The team, although, lost in seven games in the NBA Finals in 1994. So Riley resigned from New York Knicks and joined the Miami Heat as their head coach.

Though his joining the Miami Heat stirred a round of controversy, it all got cleared later on. In 1997, Miami Heat defeated Riley’s old team New York Knicks and Riley became the Coach of the Year for the third time. Few years later in 2003, Riley again stepped down as the coach of The Heat and concentrated on his duties as the general manager, after he was disappointed with the team’s performance. However, he shocked everyone when he resumed his role as a coach in 2005. But he again decided to step down after the team’s miserable performance.

Life beyond Sports

Riley published a book called Showtime: Inside the Lakers’ Breakthrough Season, in 1988 which became a bestseller in New York. His name was also associated with a video game called Pat Riley Basketball. In 1993, Riley published his second book The Winner Within: A Life Plan for Team Players which was again a New York bestseller.

We had also seen Pat Riley modeling at an Armani show, as was obvious because of his close bonding with Giorgio Armani.

Apart from this, Pat Riley is a well known motivational speaker around the world. He charges as far as $ 50, 000 for each speaking engagement.

Assets

More recently Pat Riley was in news when he sold off his Waterfront Coral Gables house for $16.75 million, which he had bought in 1996 for $6.3 million. The five bedrooms, eight bathroom mansion stretches wide across 2 acres of land in the Gables Estate Club. The mansion boasts of 12, 856 sq. ft. of living space, a media room, a wine cellar, a well stocked library with a fireplace, a pool so huge that it can host an entire franchise. What more? This magnificent palace also houses a private sandy beach and dock. The whopping amount seems quite legitimate for this beautiful bungalow.

With this we wrap up this article. Pat Riley is probably one of the greatest contributors to basketball in America, be it as a player or a coach or the president of the team. We wish him luck for all his future endeavors!

Net Worth – $45 million

Former Basket Ball player and Coach

Who said Coaches don’t make millions? To talk about Phil Jackson is to talk about one of the greatest coaches in the history of Basket ball.During his career, Phil Jackson coached for the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets and the Chicago Bulls. Jackson is also a former NBA player who played professionally from 1967-1980. Phil Jackson is considered one of the greatest coaches of all time and has 11 NBA championships, more than any other coach.

Privy life

A pure bred American by birth, Montana born Phil had a very religious background as both his parents were in the ministry of God.He grew up playing Varsity Basket ball and also a little bit of football and baseball. He studied at the Williston High School in North Dakota. He is married twice and has five children and seven grandchildren. He has admitted to using Marijuana and LSD in the past.Jackson was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2011. He told the Lakers players in May 2011, when they were involved in a second-round play-off series against the Mavericks. Jackson decided to delay his surgery until after the play-off’s.

Career

While in high school,Phil was recruited to play North Dakota to play basketball after graduation. While there, he helped his team win third- and fourth-place finishes in the NCAA Division II championships.Success here opened up an new path for him as he was immediately drafted to the second round by the New York Knicks. Though he was intelligent, hard working, and a good all-round athlete, he was never a star player. He retired from play in 1980.

His role as a coach saw him teach the lower-level professional league first.Believed to be sympathetic to counter culture, he was invariably denied to get a job in the NBA.1987 saw Phil being chosen as the assistant coach to the Chicago Bulls and promoted to Head coach in 1989.For over nine seasons,he led the Bulls to six championships.Jackson and the Bulls made the play-off’s every year, and failed to win the title only three times. He follows the Zen principle while coaching which he believes is essential n the reason for his success.

After winning the title in 1998, Jackson took a year off, and then joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1999. He had immediate success with the team, leading them to a three-peat against the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets in 2000, 2001 and 2002.When the Lakers saw a low in their games, Phil was rehired as the coach and the teams fortunes were restored.

Journey to the millionaire club

With his family being deeply involved in religious activities, it was like surely confirmed that he would follow their footsteps. It’s quite impossible to say whether Jackson would have been happier serving God, then he was playing on NBA, but some things we know for sure- today Phil Jackson net worth wouldn’t be counted in tens of millions and we wouldn’t be writing this article.

Than being a player, Phil made most of his money by being the coach of some the best teams to play Basket ball. This net worth of 45 million is quite a huge amount of money because he is not just a successful basketball player but he is also known as a successful professional basketball coach who has led several famous teams to win the prestigious trophies in the NBA competition. During his career as a professional basketball coach and as a player, Phil has won eleven NBA titles. This makes him the most successful NBA coach in the history.

Jackson was paid a staggering $11 million to coach the Lakers for three seasons and this shows the quality of the man.2007 saw him win his 900th game and his salary was a huge $10,000,000 a year. When he was re hired by his former team, the salary rate rose up $ 23 million that made him the highest paid coaches in basket ball history. His house is worth a plush $6.2 million and the old man has possibly everything that any other coach craves at that age.Part of his money came from writing as well.Forbes named him as one of the richest coaches of the year 2010-11.

Although retired, there are speculations that he would come back to coaching again,if so,it would be millions galore for Jackson again.

Charity

Phil supports the ‘American Indian College Fund’ and the ‘Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He recently donated $ 2 million the children s home.He is also a part of the Swift Eagle Charitable Foundation.

Awards

In 1996, Jackson won the NBA Coach of the Year Award. In the same year he was named one of the ten greatest NBA coaches of all time by vote in an unranked compilation. At the time he was in his 8th year coaching; in the seven years prior he coached 574 games and won 414, with only 160 losses, and had a win-loss percentage of 72.1% – the highest of any coach on the list at that time. He continued his success in his later career; Sources of various sports agencies now confirm that he is the most sought coach for any professional basket ball team.
</sup>

In 2002 and 2010 Jackson received the Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award from the United States Sports Academy.
