History at glance:

  • In 1920 Chopard moved  to Geneva started  production of quality watches.
  • Chopard Company was taken over by  goldsmith and watchmaker Karl Scheufele in 1963  who as the new head of the company, gained tremendous experience with watchmaking and jewelry making.
  • He was a pioneer  to modernization of the company and added the jewelry segment into the Chopard closet.
  •  Chopard introduced the Happy Diamonds collection in around 1976. Watches  featured extremely expensive  mobile diamonds that floated  between transparent sapphire crystals.
  • In 1996, after alot of  planning and development, the first Chopard in-house movement of the late 20th century was produced.
  • Chopard holds three production sites located in Geneva, Fleurier in Switzerland and Pforzheim ,Germany.

Mr. Scheufele is the president of the Chopard Company. The business is kept in the blood lines . In the 1990’s his children joined the business. Caroline Scheufele his beautiful sister  is the head of the jewelry division, while Karl-Friedrich manages the watchmaking.

Chopard has continuously cooperated in fight against AIDS with Sir Elton John who established the foundation in 1993.

The Cannes Film Festival:

The partnership between the Chopard Company and the Cannes Film Festival started in 1997. Initiated by the meeting between Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, Chopard Co-President, and Pierre Viot, President of the festival. By Viot’s request, Mrs. Gruosi-Scheufele with the team of Chopard master craftsmen redesigned the Golden palm award.

To mark the 60th Anniversary of the festival, for the Cannes Film Festival 2007 opening ceremony the Chopard Company developed the Red Carpet Collection in cooperation with Valentino. Caroline Scheufele created 60 high jewellery pieces inspired by the celebrities at Cannes,

First organised in 1997 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Grimaldi dynasty. In 2002, Chopard became official partner and timekeeper for the event, and has also developed a series of classically inspired sports watches.

Q: If one of the big groups wants to buy Chopard at a huge premium, what will you decide?

Mr Scheufele: It has happened already! We had more than one offer. I asked my children to make the decision and I am lucky that my children rejected the offers. They love Chopard, won’t know what to do with the money, no; there is no chance of that happening.
