Early Life & Career
Benazir Bhutto the former president of Pakistan was born in 1953 in Pakistan to former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. She attained her early education in Pakistan and later she pursued her higher studies in the United States. After completing her education, Bhutto returned to Pakistan in 1977 and was inherited the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party after her father. However he was killed in a plane crash and Bhutto became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988. She became the first women prime minister of Pakistan. In spite of getting elected, she lost in 1990 elections and further came back to power in 1993 but was later replaced in 1996. In 1999 she was found guilty against the charges of corruption and was sentenced to three year prison. She returned to Pakistan in 2007. she also returned to politics the same year. however her return was hit by an attack. In the suicide bomb attack nearly 136 people were killed and Bhutto survived the attack after she hid behind her car. The politician had a very charismatic authority and political scene. Bhutto’s Economic and philosophical views emphasized on financial sector. She received the title of “Iron Lady” from India because of her hard line against the union plus. while she was living in Dubai, UAE, she took care of her three children and her mother Nusrat. She reunited with her husband after living separately for five years. however soon in 2006, Interpol issued an arrest warning against Bhutto and her husband on corruption charges on Pakistan’s request. The year she died in 2007, she was invited by then president George Bush and state department after she questioned the authenticity of the request letter to Interpol. Benazir Bhutto was married to a wealthy business man, Asif Ali Zardari in Pakistan Karachi in 1987. The couple together have three children. Two daughters Bakhtawar and Aseefa and a son Bilawal.
Death
Bhutto was assassinated in 2007. An assassin during an election campaign rally fired shots and later killed himself at Rawalpindi, Pakistan. In the attack other twenty eight people were killed and over hundred were injured. She didn’t die of a bullet shot, but after hitting her head on her car’s sunroof. Thousands of people gathered to mourn to Bhutto. She was later buried in Garhi Khuda Baksh which happens to be her family’s mausoleum. she was buried besides her father.
