Lauren Keyana Palmer is a famed American actress, singer, songwriter, dancer, fashion designer, activist, entrepreneur, voice actress and philanthropist. Palmer was born in Harvey, Illinois on August 26, 1993 and raised in Robbins, Illinois. Palmer is famously known as “Keke Palmer” as she was nicknamed “Keke” by her older sister, Loreal at a young age. She was best known for her role as the titular protagonist on the Nickelodeon sitcom True Jackson, VP from 2009 to2011 and became the fourth highest paid child star on television at the time. Now also she is one of the highest paid-actress in the world.

Palmer got her acting skills in her blood. Her parents, Sharon and Larry Palmer met in drama school, had both worked as professional actors before settling into full-time jobs. Her father works for a polyurethane company, and her mother is a high school teacher who works with children with mental disabilities. Keke started her career at a young age of 5 by singing at a church’s choir. Palmer earned valuable experience and exposure at a popular Chicago tourist destination by performing a stage show. At the age of nine Palmer auditioned for a stage production of The Lion King .
In 2004, soon after her first film debut, the Palmers uprooted themselves and moved to the Los Angeles, California to help her pursue a career in show business. This proved to be a wise decision for her as within six weeks Palmer landed a guest role on the TV show Cold Case, a K-Mart commercial, and starred opposite William H. Macy in Wool Cap, a TNT original movie. She made her acting debut in the film Barbershop 2: Back in Business, in which she played the niece of American rapper and actress Queen Latifah.
Soon after acting, Palmer followed her passion of singing. She participated in American Juniors, the American Idol spin-off series in 2003, but the show was canceled that year as her audition scenes were edited out. Palmer signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and was featured in the television film Knights of the South Bronx, as well as starring in three television programs Second Time Around, ER, and Keke & Jamal in 2005..
Keke auditioned for Akeelah and the Bee (2006) 5 times and got selected because of the emotion in her crying . Palmer played an inspirational starring role in Akeelah and the Bee alongside Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett for which she received great acclaim when she starred as the title character in the Lionsgate Films/Starbucks Entertainment sleeper hit. Also, “All My Girlz”, Palmer’s debut single, is featured in the Akeelah and the Bee soundtrack.
Palmer appeared in Tyler Perry’s, Medea’s Family Reunion, which was number #1 at the box office for two consecutive weeks in the same year. She later stared in the DCOM “Jump In!” alongwith Corbin Bleu.
In 2007, Palmer starred in many movies, she was a supporting act in the thriller Cleaner alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes.
Afterwards, Keke appeared in films like The Longshots (2008), Shrink (2009). Keke starred in various movies in 2012- Ice Age: Continental Drift, Joyful Noise alongside Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah and Winx Club. She produced and starred in Rags, a Nickelodeon musical film. Besides these, Palmer also performed voice characters in Ice Age: Continental Drift and Winx Club.
In 2012, Palmer spoke on the direction of the album saying “It’s definitely a progression. What you would think I’d sound like at my age is what it is. It’s a record I can say is truly my own. I was there from the beginning to the end. I was in full control of it, and it represents who I am.” Keke recently finished filming the movie, Abducted: The Carlina White Story (2012), for the Lifetime Network. Keke Palmer is currently starring as Chilli in the TLC biopic VHI film CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story (2013).

She released her debut album, So Uncool, in 2007 after performing at the Save the Music Battle of the High School Marching Bands in 2006 but failed to chart on US Billboard 200. She also recorded a song entitled “Tonight” which was featured as the first song in the end credits of Night at the Museum in 2006. The “Awaken”, Palmer’s first mixtape was released in 2011. Keke released a self-titled mixtape in the next year with her new singles “You Got Me” & “Dance Alone” which have already been released. Since then, her mixtape has over 35,000 downloads. Keke sang two songs for her movie Jump In!, one called It’s My Turn Now, the other called Jumpin. She also can be heard on DisneyMania 5 singing Reflection from Mulan.
Palmer as well as her album was heavily influenced by contemporary R&B and its singers, R.Kelly, Brandy, Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Whitney Houston and girl group TLC, respectively.

Keke fetched 19 nominations and 10 awards till date. Palmer won a Special Award for Rising Star of the Year in 2006. Also she got Black Movie award for her movie released that very year. In 2007, she won Young Artist Award, category Best Performance in a Feature Film – Leading Young Actress and Image Award Category Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture Akeelah and the Bee (2006). In the same year she fetched Black Reel awards category best actress for the movie Akeelah and the Bee (2006). She earned an Image award category Outstanding Performance in a Youth/Children’s Program (Series or Special), True Jackson, VP (2008) for the four consecutive years (2009-2012).

Works to eradicate hunger while increasing diversity, motivating youth and seniors and optimizing the production of unused land for food and alternative energy.
