Chris Rock as Christopher Julius “Chris” Rock (III) was born on 7th February,1965. He came up as an American actor, film producer, screenwriter, standup comedian , television producer . In early 1990’s, he became more famous as being a member of The Saturday Night Live. He had   produced a lot of movies and acted in a lot of TV serials, movies, stage plays. He has been a stand-up comedian for over twelve years, and he even made his big screen debut in the movie Beverly Hill Cop II  He had been bestowed with many awards and recognitions. In 2007, he had been labeled as the fifth greatest stand-up comedian by The Comedy Central and also as the ninth greatest standup comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups in 2007. But in 2010, Chris Rock came on the eighth position.

 

EARLY LIFE AND CHILDHOOD

Chris Rock was born and brought up in Andrews, South Carolina. His mother “Rosalie” was a teacher and also worked as a social worker for the mentally handicapped. His father “Julius Rock” was a truck driver and later he became a newspaper deliveryman. Chris had three younger brothers Tony, Kenny and Jordan who are in the same profession as he is. He had one older brother Charles who suffered from alcoholism died in 2006. After Chris was born, the family shifted to Brooklyn in New York and later relocated themselves in the working class area of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn.

Rock was bullied and beaten by the white students when he was doing his schooling which was dominated by the white neighborhoods in Brooklyn. But later as he grew up, his parents dropped him out of the school after the worse attitude of the whites. Rock worked at many fast food restaurants. He had also received a diploma of general education.

Chris Rock is a man of talent. He is an all rounder as he presented himself as an actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer, stage player, etc. He began his stand up comedy in 1984.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIFE

In 1990, he joined a sketch comedy series of comedy night life. He and other cast members formed a group known as the bad boys of Saturday Night Life. It included  Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and David Spade. His first comedy movie was released in 1991 and was applauded for the dramatic role. The Saturday Night Life gave him more national exposure .

FILM STAR

Rock had increasingly worked behind the camera as both screenwriter and producer. Two of his movies which he directed and played the lead role like Head Of The State and I Think I love My Wife.  Also working as a  producer and director, he had done voice work in Madagascar animated film franchise. His first documentary was released in 2009 as “Good Hair”. After he got success in his standup comedy , he started receiving the offers for movies. In 2010, he appeared in many movies like Death at a funeral, Grown Ups, 2 Days in New York.

Despite of being a film star, he had produced many comic series. One of his very famous comic series called “Everybody hates Chris” was all about his old school days when he was bullied. The show got all the critic success high ratings. It got a 2006 People’s Choice Award for the best television comedy and two Emmy Awards in 2006 for costuming and cinematography. Most recently in 2012, he produced the series “Totally biased with W. Kamau Bell”.

Rock is a man of many talents. Rock’s first music video was his own song “Your Mother’s Got a Big Head” from his own album born suspect. He appeared in  many videos of his own such as “Hump De Bump”,Big Daddy Kane music video “Smooth Operator”.

He also showed his interest in stage plays for which he got nominated for a Drama League Award. In 2011, he acted in Stephen Adly’s play “The Motherfucker With a Hat” with Bobby Cannavale and Annabella Sciora.

Rock’s subject matter typically involves family, politics, romance, music, class relationships, and race relations in the United States. Although he never showed interest in writing autobiography but many of his comics revolved around his childhood about his schooldays when he was bussed in a white neighborhood school in Brooklyn and his parents were concerned about the inadequacies of the local school system. He recalls as a memory that what he got was a worse education in a worse neighbourhood rather than a good education in a good neighborhood. In 2007 in London at the live concert which was flashing live on BBC , Rock called the crowd “motherfucker” and “shit” and after a pause he said he was joking. Rock cutoff from the  broadcast of BBC and later the management apologized Rock for using the word “motherfucker”.

 

PERSONAL LIFE

Chris Rock married a girl named Malaak Compton who was the founder and executive director of Styleworks. It is a non-profit, full-service salon that provides free services for women leaving welfare and entering the workforce. They have two daughters together, Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah. Rock resides with his wife in Alpine, New Jersey.  Rock’s great-great-grandfather known as Julius Caesar Tingman, was a slave for 21 years before serving as a part of the United States Colored Troops until 1866. Tingman fought in the American Civil War.

 

CONTROVERSIES

In November 2006, the words were spread that Rock had filed a divorce approximately after ten years of his marriage to Malaak. But however, after two weeks the news came that rock had not filed a divorce and the couple had solved their issues and differences and stayed together. With this Rock claimed it to be as the untrue rumors and lies.

Another controversy came in 2007, a former actress Kali Bowyer, filed a case against Rock saying that he is the father of her son. But later, DNA test results showed that Rock was  not the child’s father.

His another documentary was also a hit named as “Comedian” . Also in 1989, paparazzi was released in which he played a cameo role of a pizza delivery boy. Documentaries like “Good Hair”, “Torrance Rises”, “The N-Word”, “Aristrocrats” were huge hits. He was nominated for the voice in Teen Choice Awards for Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted which was released in 2010. He came as director, producer, and writer in movies like “I think I love my wife”, “Head of state”, “Pootie Tang” and many other.
