True that. Daniel Wroughton Craig is better known as the latest James Bond, who has been playing the sleuth since 2006, after Pierce Brosnan. But there are some more notable films that he has done in his film career, like Love Is The Devil, The Trench and Some Voices which were highly appreciated and resulted in bigger and prestigious films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road To Perdition, Layer Cake and Munich. But he became an international figure when he became the sixth actor to play the role of the secret agent James Bond. His debut as Bond in Casino Royale earned him a BAFTA award nomination. We have also seen him in the recent The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Young Bond
Craig was born in Chester, England to Carol Olivia and Timothy john Wroughton Craig. He was brought up in the Wirral Peninsula and attended primary school near Frodsham. He began acting in the school plays at the age of six. When he turned 16, he moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre. He appeared as Joe in the Royal National Theatre’s Angels of America in 1993. He also appeared in an episode of the television series Heartbeat. He was also a part of BBC’s 1996 drama, Our Friends in the North and appeared as Angelina Jolie’s rival and love interest in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

In 2005, Daniel Craig entered in to a contract with Eon Productions to portray the role of James Bond after Pierce Brosnan. He is the first man to play James Bond who was born after the Bond series started. Craig was criticized as the choice to play the next Bond because he was not tall or dark as the previous Bonds were.
The first film, Casino Royale grossed a total of $ 594, 239, 066 worldwide, which made it the highest grossing Bond films of all time, until of course, Skyfall released. After the film came out, Craig’s performance was highly acclaimed and all those clouds of doubts regarding him just vanished. He also did the next two Bond films, namely, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited Craig to be a member in 2006.
Life Beyond Bond
Craig’s actual acting career started back in 1999 when he starred as Richard in a television drama series called Shockers: The Visitor. He was also seen in The Golden Compass in 2007 as Lord Asriel.
In 2008, he played the role of a Jewish resistance fighter in the forests of Belarus, who saved the lives of 1,200 people in the Second World War in the film Defiance. He also starred alongside Hugh Jackman in a drama, A Steady Rain which went on for a limited period, from 10th September to 6th December 2009.

1. Artists for Peace and Justice
This fundraising organization was founded by Paul Higgings and his few friends in 2009 to provide support to the poverty stricken communities of the world and encourage issues of peace and social justice. Daniel Craig is one of the honorary members of the APJ advisory board and needless to say, he helps the organization with regular donations.
2. Dorset Wildlife Trust
This was launched with the noble objective of conserving the natural reserves and endangered wildlife of Dorset. This organization works to achieve the objectives of this awareness among people of all ages and backgrounds. This is the largest charitable trust in Dorset with more than 25,000 members. Well, Craig, as you can guess, is one of the active members of the trust who has volunteered and donated lump some amounts on several occasions.
3. Epilepsy actions
This is a UK based charity which focuses on providing support, information and advice to people suffering from epilepsy. It has 100 support groups across the UK that provides support to patients in different forms. Daniel Craig supported this organization through donations and contributed the sales of his drawings.
4. Worldwide Orphans Foundation
Worldwide Orphans Foundation was founded in 1997 by the renowned pediatric specialist, Dr. Jane Aronson. Dr. Aronson has dedicated his whole life working for the welfare of the children. The foundation functions with the objective of supporting the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of orphaned children all over the world. The foundation believes that institutionalized children will benefit more if they are integrated with their own cultures in their own communities. To this end, it tries to identify and address the unique needs of orphaned children around the world through medical, educational, and psychological programs. Today the foundation is mostly focused on addressing the welfare needs of children in poor and war torn countries like Bulgaria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Serbia, Vietnam, etc. through their various initiatives. They have recently introduced pediatric HIV treatment in these countries. Daniel Craig extended this support to the foundation for a long time. Daniel Craig along with his girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell supported the foundation by attending the 2009 Worldwide Orphans Foundation Benefit Gala at New York City’s Capitale Lounge in October, 2009.
