Born on 29, February, 1976, Jeffery Atkins better known by his stage name Ja Rule is an American singer, rapper and actor from Queens, New York. When he was 5 years old his sister died due to breathing complications and after that he was brought up as the only child of his mother, Debra Atkins who was a health care worker. As he was raised in a Jehovah’s witnesses he could not discover the music genius in him but as his mom ultimately left the religion new doorways opened for him.

He started his career in the year 1993 with a hip hop group known as Cash Money Click. His stage name Ja rule came into existence because of his friend who used to address him by that name. In 1998, he made his first appearance as a featured artist on radio on Jay-Z’s single “can I Get A…”.His debut album Venni vetti vecci was released in 1999 and it ranked 3 on the billboard list of 200 and within a period of about seven days 184,000 copies of it were sold. His hit single Holla Holla found its spot at 35 on the billboard list of hot 100 charts and reached platinum status adding feather to his cap.

Ja Rule also tried his hand on acting and is now an established actor .He started his career as an actor with the film Turn It Up which was released in 2000.After that he appeared in many famous movies like Fast And Furious (2001), Back in the Day (2004), Half Past Dead (2004), Scary Movie 3(2003) and in Assault On Precinct 13(2005) .In 2013, he acted as Miles Montego in a movie I Am In Love With A Church Girl.

Controversies and Legal Issues:
In 2003, Ja Rule punched a man in Toronto who later filed a case on him but the case was settled out of the court. In 2004, he was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and carrying marijuana. In 2007, he was incarcerated along with Lil Wayne and Don Rhys on the charges of possession of gun and drugs .He received a two year prison sentence after pleading guilty for attempted possession of weapon.
Feuds:
In 1999, 50 Cent and Ja Rule engaged in a well publicised feud. According to 50 Cent it all started when Ja Rule spotted him with a person who robbed him of his jewellery but Ja rule denied it completely and saying that it all happened when a shooting was going on for a video in Queens and 50 Cent did not like the way Ja Rule was getting love from the people. In New York studio rapper black child stabbed 50 Cent because of which he got three stitches .From then on conflict is going on between them .Black Child, a Murder Inc. Artist has insulted 50 Cent in many of his songs. He also got into a feud with Lil’ Mo which was later settled as both reconciled.
