Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo was born on 18 July 1957.He is an English professional golfer mainly on the European Tour and currently he is on-air golf analyst. He was a top player in his era who was famous because for his single minded dedication to his game. For a total of 97 weeks, he was ranked No. 1 on the Official World Golf Ranking. In his pocket, he has a total of 40 professional wins which includes 30 victories in his European Tour and also six major championships. He became the lead golf analyst for CBS Sports in the year 2006 and joined the BBC on-air team for coverage of the Open Championship in the year 2012.

He was born in England. After watching Jack Nicklaus on television playing Masters in the year 1971 he was inspired to take up the game of golf. Just at the age of 17, while Faldo was working as a carpet fitter, he won the British Youths Championship and the English Amateur in the year 1975. In late 1976, after he played on the University of Houston golf team, he turned professional in the same year.

His first and instant success was on the European Tour where he finished 8th on the Order of Merit in the year 1977 and 3rd in the year 1978. In the former year, just at the age of 20, he became the youngest player to appear in the Ryder Cup.

In the years of 1980 and 1981, Faldo won two Sun Alliance PGA Championship’s in England, and soon became one of the leading players in the early 1980’s. Later in the year 1987, Nick Faldo claimed his first ever major title at The Open Championship at Muirfield. In the year 1989, Faldo won his second major championship. Also after Jack Nicklaus in the span of 1965-1966, Faldo became the first player to win back-to-back Masters titles. At the US Open at Medinah Country Club in the year 1990, he finished for 3rd place. In the same year only at St Andrews, Scotland, Sir Faldo won his second Open Championship becoming the first player ever to win two majors in the same year after Tom Watson. For a third time in the year 1992, he won the Claret Jug trophy in the Open Championship at Muirfield. In the same year, he claimed for the second time the European Tour Order of Merit. Faldo won the Carroll’s Irish Open for the third time in July 1993. Faldo remained a European Tour Player throughout the 1990s, but also visiting America regularly and playing tournaments worldwide. But in late 1965, he decided to concentrate on the US PGA Tour as his main aim was to win other major championships. He collected his final sixth major championship against Augusta in April 1996. Later in the year 2005, his appearances in the tournaments became sporadic and also did not play at the Open Championships that year. S finally in the year 2011, Faldo decided not to take part in the tournaments, instead he joined the BBC Sport commentary team.

When Faldo was just 21, he met his first wife Melanie Rockall. They married in the year 1979 but when she discovered that he was having an affair with Gill Bennett, his manager’s secretary, they parted in less than five years of marriage. He also had three children from his wife: Matthew, Georgia and Natalie.

Harry Vardon was the only European player who had won seven majors, more than Nick Faldo in a span between 1896-1914. In the year 1990 he was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year and further he won the European Tour Player of the Year in 1989, 1990 and also in 1992, and during this span won 29 European Tour titles. Faldo was considered as the best golfer in the world in the early 1990s. For a total of 97 weeks, he was at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking and not only this, his six professional major wins were more than any other player in the world from the year 1987 to 1996. Also he holds the record of representing the European Team 11 times and was the most successful Ryder Cup player ever. To provide opportunities to young golfers under the age of 21, he launched the Faldo Series for both male and female. Each year, there are around 7,000 participants from around the world. Mercedes-Benz also tapped Nick Faldo to act as their brand ambassador in the year 2007. And also he has written several books on golf instructions. In the year 1989, he was voted as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and was ranked as the 18th golfer by Golf Digest magazine.
