Keith Rupert Murdoch popularly known as Rupert Murdoch is the founder, chairman and CEO of News Corporation. the company is world’s second largest media company. Murdoch was born in Melbourne, Australia in a very rich family in 1931. Initially he was a war correspondent and later owned two regional newspaper in South Australia and owned a radio station. After completing Masters in Arts, he worked as a sub-editor with Daily Express for two years. Post his fathers death, Murdoch took the charge of family business News Limited. He soon began to spreading the business and looked for acquisition of small publishing housed and troubled news papers. over the next few years, he managed to acquire almost all the locals such as Sunday Times, Sydney afternoon, The Daily Mirror, The Economist to name a few. By the year 1984, Murdoch was given the title of the Champion of the Order of Australia for his services in Publishing. In 1968 he decided to enter the British Newspaper market. He acquired “News of the World” followed by ” The Sun” in the UK. In 1986, he introduced and electric process for his newspapers in Australia, UK and US. This new technology saved money and decreased the number of employees involved in printing process. This led to dismissal of several employees. A bitter dispute started and over 6000 employees gone on strike but later in 1987, Murdoch agreed to pay £60 million as a settlement for dismissed workers. Apart from this Murdoch also owns Sky Television satellite network in United Kingdom. The Sky network has the highest number of subscribers. In 2005 he bought Intermix Media Inc for $580 million . In 2005 Murdoch bought IGN entertainment for $650 million. In 1993, Murdoch acquired Star TV which is the biggest satellite TV network in the east.News Corp donated $1 million each to the Republican Governors Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a group supporting Republican candidates. Critics argued that the owner of major news sources covering the election should not contribute directly to the political campaigns involved. Rupert Murdoch has on several occasions linked with many different politicians and political parties and often seen favoring one party over the other in United Kingdom as well as in the United States. He is known to favor a Political party and publish news in favor of the said political party. He took over 20th century Fox and later launched Fox News, Although he could never have imagined the power he would one day yield, this kind of influence was exactly what Murdoch sought as a young publisher building his empire.
