Susan Boyle Net Worth, Money and More
Net Worth: $ 18 million
Profession: Singer, actress
This charming British talent who shot to fame when she appeared as a contestant for the television show Britain’s Got Talent, was born in Blackburn, Scotland. She holds the record for being the oldest person to ever release a debut album, for having the fastest selling debut album by a female in the United Kingdom.
My foray into music
Boyle before getting into Britain’s Got Talent, mainly got experience from singing in her local Catholic church, in local choirs and in karaoke performances at pubs in and around her village. In the year 1998, she recorded three tracks, Cry Me a River, Killing Me Softly and Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, at Heartbeat Studio Midlothian. Reportedly she used all her savings to pay for a professionally cut demo. Though these did not sell well, these videos were up for grabs after her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. In 1999, she submitted a track for a charity CD to commemorate the Millennium.
She had won several local singing competitions, and tried out her luck in the television show My Kind of People, but the judges were more interested in mocking her for her appearance than appreciating her for her abilities. Susan, who got lessons from vocal coach Fred O’ Neil coaxed her into giving a shot at Britain’s Got Talent despite all the failures.
My big break
Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation once she took the stage of the popular UK reality show Britain’s Got Talent in 2009. She took the audience by surprise when she serenaded to the unheard rendition of ‘I Dreamed a Dream,’ the sensational hit song from the musical Les Miserables. Though Susan Boyle finished the contest as a runner-up, she won the audience heart and enjoyed their immense affection and held their attention for longer time than one imagined she would. The years to come saw her career skyrocket like never before. The very year she appeared in Britain’s Got Talent, she bagged the opportunity to come up with own her album with the help of Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell’s record label Syco. The album was an instant hit with the audience and it reached the number one position on both US and UK charts. This was truly unprecedented for a debutante artist of her age. By the end of the year her album I Dreamed a Dream became the second best seller of the year and a chart-topper thought Europe.
Her subsequent albums did equally well on the charts. Her second album, which was out in 2010, titled The Gift, again did remarkably well the world over. The very month it was launched it debuted at number one position in the UK album charts selling 102,000 copies in the very first week of its release.
She was also nominated for the Best Pop Vocal album category for both the years 2010 and 2011, for her albums I Dreamed a Dream and The Gift.
A fortune for my vocals
I Dreamed a Dream was more than an instant success: it wound up as the second-biggest seller of 2009 in the U.S. and topped charts throughout Europe. In only six weeks of sales, the album sold over 9 million copies; the fastest-selling debut album of all time and helped Boyle earned £4.5m in her first year as a professional. According to Forbes, Susan Boyle received the first check from Simon Cowell’s record label SyCo, which had some surprising numbers. After which her album was declared to be worth around some 4 million pounds, which could be around 6.1 million. To follow up on her big check with the big bucks, he evidently sent her a diamond bracelet as a birthday gift. The bracelet was estimated to be around $10,000.
Reportedly, around 8.5 million copies have now been sold around the world, and she still holds a respectable position at No. 27 on the Billboard Top 200 CDs list.
Although, she seems to be getting richer by the hour, she prefers to live a simple life and keeping it low profile with nothing extravagant on her plate. After all the money that poured in she bought herself a house in Blackburn, West Lothian. It is a five bedroom house that is 1700 square feet touted to be palatial bungalow. This house cost her around 300,000 pounds. Even with such a luxurious place at hand, she prefers to stay at her ancestral place.
She recently bought herself a cool car. She owns a Peugeot, which is estimated to be worth over £23,000. Well, someone seems to be getting the hang of richness.
Always up for charity
She has performed some charity work for her local community even before she shot to fame. After her worldwide recognition, she has recorded & released a music CD, the sales proceeds of which serve philanthropic purposes.
She has given several charity performances to raise money for noble causes. Her very first performance was in 2010 when she sang together with major artists at the Haiti relief fundraiser.
