EARLY LIFE
Timothy Theodore “Tim” Duncan was born in Christiansted on the Virgin Islands on April 25, 1976. Duncan was a good student in school and he dreamed of becoming a professional Olympic level swimmer. As a child he started as a swimmer, but was forced to quit swimming when Hurricane Hugo destroyed the only Olympic-sized pool in his home town St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands in 1989, after which he started playing basketball.
AS A BASKETBALL PLAYER
He attended college at Wake Forest University, where, in the 1993–94 NCAA season, Duncan was forced to play after fellow freshman Makhtar N’Diaye was ruled out due to NCAA rules violations. In the 1994, Duncan was chosen to represent the U.S. Goodwill Games while working towards a degree in psychology and taking classes in anthropology and Chinese literature in Wake Forest University. In the 1994–95 NCAA season, Duncan led the Demon Deacons into the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship game against a Rashid Wallace-led North Carolina Tar Heels. Jerry West suggested that Duncan would be one of the earliest picks of NBA in 1995, but Duncan was firm that he first wanted to finish graduation. In the 1995–96 NCAA season, the Sweet 16, Duncan came down with the flu resulting for his team to miss the Final Four by one win. Duncan left college as the all-time leading shot blocker in ACC history. Duncan was titled USBWA, Naismith College Player of the Year and ACC player of the Year. After completing his degree, Duncan finally played for 1997 NBA Draft.

Duncan is a very sincere and shining player right from the start. In the 1997 NBA draft the San Antonio Spurs had Duncan as their first pick. In 1998 Duncan was selected as one of the final two players for the US Basketball Team in the World Basketball Championships. In the 2001 to 2002 season he was titled Most Valuable Player. In 2003 Duncan was also a member of the US Basketball Team that recorded 10 wins and qualified for the Olympics. During the 2005-2006 seasons Duncan was suffering from Plantar Fasciitis for most of the time, due to which he could not give his best and thus failed to make to the All NBA First Team after eight consecutive appearances. IN 2007, he returned with full spirit and in 2008 he was chosen as the Most Outstanding Basketball Player. In 2013, he re-signed a long term contract with NBA.

RELATIONSHIP AND DIVORCE
Tim Duncan married his college love Amy in 2001. Duncan has two children from Amy, a daughter and a son born in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Duncan and Amy got divorced in 2013 in a secret court hearing after a yearlong rough divorce case. After divorce, Amy in an interview claimed that Duncan is bisexual citing it as one of the reasons for their divorce. Amy further claimed that Duncan cheated on her due to his relations with his male best friend. Duncan however made no official comments on this issue.

Off the court, Duncan is an active community member. The Tim Duncan Foundation, headed by Amy Duncan promotes health, education and recreation causes for betterment of the lives of young children in San Antonio, Winston-Salem and St. Croix. In addition, Duncan supports many other social programs in San Antonio, including the Children’s Bereavement Center and the Cancer Therapy and Research Center.
