Al Roker was born on August 20, 1954 in Queens, New York, USA. He has been a student of the prestigious Xavier High School in New York and was interested in cartooning. From 1974 to 1976, while still at school, he worked as a weather anchor for WHEN-TV in Syracuse, New York. He then reported weather in Ohio and D.C. Roker married a fellow journalist Deborah Roberts, whom he had met in 1990, when he joined NBC as a reporter. The couple has two daughters and a son. Roker is a first cousin to late actress Roxie Roker, as mentioned by him in the July 2011 issue of US Weekly in “25 Things You Did Not Know About Me”. Roker has been a food lover ever since and underwent a gastric bypass surgery in the year 2002. He lost nearly 100 pounds weight in just eight months of the surgery. He also ran in the ING New York City Marathon on November 7, 2010.
