Albert Lincoln Roker is a television personality and face of NBC’s Today show. Roker is a man of multifaceted personality and owes his wealth to the multiple careers he has pursued. He is an American weather forecaster and an actor with a net worth of $35 million. He started his career 20 years ago as a television and radio personality. He is an author too and has been a nine – time Emmy award winner. He was also the host of the morning show ‘Wake Up with Al’ on the Weather Channel. He is a very talented and hardworking person and that’s why he has been able to attain such heights of success.

Early Life:

Al Roker was born on August 20, 1954 in Queens, New York, USA. He has been a student of the prestigious Xavier High School in New York and was interested in cartooning. He then studied at the State University in Oswego and got fascinated with weather forecasting. From 1974 to 1976, while still at school, he worked as a weather anchor for WHEN-TV in Syracuse, New York. He then reported weather in Ohio and D.C. He rose higher from the post of weatherman to chief meteorologist in no time. Eventually, in 1996, he got the job as a weatherman for NBC’s show ‘Today’ and rose to fame with that.



Al Roker’s charismatic personality and wonderful voice made him a favourite of many in no time. He has established himself as a solution provider to all the relationship issues, especially through his morning shows. He also started a murder mystery series, with Dick Lochte, in 2009 starring Billy Blessing. He also started a production house of his own, Al Roker Productions Inc. in the year 2009. It is a multimedia company under whose banner PBS weather special, ‘Savage Skies’ and the travel show ‘Going Places’  were produced. He has produced for CNBC, MSNBC as well as PBS. His interest and comic timings let him do a variety of shows from cooking to new technology. He has also hosted some occasional series, like ‘Roker on the Road’ telecasted on Food Network.

Another feather in Roker’s cap is his excellent writing skills. He has written five books so far. The first being “Don’t Make Me Stop This Car: Adventures in Fatherhood” which was on New York Times best seller list for several weeks. His another, “Al Roker’s Hassle Free Holiday Cookbook”, published in May 2002 also became a blockbuster hit. It became popular among the American chefs as it helped them in polishing their culinary skills. He has also written a touchy story about fathers and their contribution to their children’s lives in his book “Big Shoes: In Celebration of Dads and Fatherhood”.

Recently, he has written two mystery books, one of them being “The Morning Show Murders”, published in 2010. It is the story of a man who has his own morning show and solves murder mysteries too. His next mystery book, “The Midnight Show Murders” was nominated for 2011 Nero Award. Besides, Roker is a member of several professional organizations, like the Friars Club, American federation of Television and Radio Artists, the American Meteorological Society as well as the Screen Actors Guild.


Personal Life:

Roker married a fellow journalist Deborah Roberts, whom he had met in 1990, when he joined NBC as a reporter. The couple has two daughters and a son. Roker is a first cousin to late actress Roxie Roker, as mentioned by him in the July 2011 issue of US Weekly in “25 Things You Did Not Know About Me”. Roker has been a food lover ever since and underwent a gastric bypass surgery in the year 2002. He lost nearly 100 pounds weight in just eight months of the surgery. He also ran in the ING New York City Marathon on November 7, 2010.

Al Roker has made big money out of the numerous careers and has reached a position where he can fulfil all his desires. He is an avid lover of Mercedes Benz cars. He also loves going on tours and he recently announced that he would be touring Africa from September to December this year.
