Cumberbatch was born in London, to the proud parents Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch and Wanda Ventham. He was always interested in acting. He made his stage debut at the tender age of 12 as one of the Fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He started training as an actor, after graduating from University of Manchester, at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Cumberbatch has not really been lucky in matter of love. He met Olivia Poulet while at the university and they broke up after being together for over a period of 12 years. Afterwards, he dated Anna James for around an year but, they separated as well. Cumberbatch believes in Buddhism and is in favor of meditation.
Cumberbatch is a philanthropist as well. He believes in giving back to the community. He has been an active participant in various organizations like The Prince’s Trust, Stop The War Coalition, and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
