Alicia Christian Foster, also known as Jodie Foster is one actress who has been a part of the entertainment industry from a very young age.  She was born in the year 1962 in Los Angeles, California. Foster starred in commercials when she was three and this marked the beginning of her long career in this industry. It was Jodie’s mother, Brandy, who encouraged her to become an actress. She also helped Jodie in managing things initially.

Foster essayed the role of a preteen sex worker in the movie “Taxi Driver” in 1976. This was her first significant role which brought her into limelight. She was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category at Academy Awards for this role. Jodie foster has starred in several movie including the cult hit titled “The little Girl  Who Lives Down the  Lane”, “The Accused”, “The Silence of the Lambs” etc.

Foster won an Academy Award for her role in the movie “The Accused” and another one for her brilliant performance in the well received movie “The Silence of the Lambs”. She has also received three BAFTA awards, Screen Actors Guild Award and three Golden Globe Awards. Other than being an actor, Foster is also known as a director and a producer. As a child artist, Foster has been a part of several television series including “Adam-12” in (1968), “Bonanza” (1959), “The Doris Day Show” (1968), “The Partridge Family” (1970) and “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” (1969). Before her critically acclaimed performance in the movie “Taxi Driver”, Foster had acted in few other films including “Kansas City Bomber (released in 1972) and “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” (1974). In her teens, she appeared in Disney movies such as “Freaky Friday” in the year 1976 and “Candleshoe” in 1977.

Jodie received $5 million for her role in “Maverick” in 1994, $9 million for the movie “Contact” in 1997, and $4.5 million along with $5 million (producing fees) for “Nell”. As a result of her constant success, Jodie’s earnings per movie soon moved into 8 digits. She received $15 million for “Anna and the King” in 1999 as well as for her role in the hit revenge thriller “The Brave One” in 2007.  She demands over $10 million per movie.

In the year 1977, Foster made her debut musical recordings in France. This is the only official musical recording by her.

Jodie has been linked with a number of people including Rob Lowe and Russel Crowe.  Her longest relationship, which lasted for more than 14 years, was with writer/producer Cydney Bernard. Cydney and Jodie had been with each other since 1993 and finally broke up in 2008. Jodie’s sexual orientation had been a subject of speculation. She finally “came out” and confirmed being gay at the Golden Globes awards in 2013. She has two sons Christopher Foster and Charles Foster.

Jodie attended a fun raising event in California which was organized by “Go Campaign”, a charity which aims at helping orphans and other children who require help by empowering them. It sets up partnerships with the local charities in order to provide medical care, education, vocational training, drinking water and other necessary facilities. Jodie also donated a substantial amount to the Trevor project, a gay youth suicide prevention organization.

Almost every actor/actress likes to have a strong fan base. However, an obsessed fan can be the cause of a lot of trouble and who knows this better than Jodie Foster.  After watching Foster in “Taxi Driver”, John Hinckley Jr. became extremely obsessed with her. He stalked her when she attended Yale. Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan, the U.S. president in 1981. He confessed that he did so in order to impress Jodie. This incident was quite traumatic for her.  Edward Richardson was another stalker who caused Jodie trouble at Yale. He had planned to shoot her. However, he changed his mind as he found Jodie “Too Pretty”.

Foster is undoubtedly one of the most successful and powerful celebrities of all times. As an actor she has received critical acclamation as well as commercial success. Her stunning looks, versatility and talent have helped her become a bankable actress with a huge fan base all over the world.
