In the year 1994- 1995 he joined Preston North End (loan). In the year 2003 he joined Real Madrid and played for this club for next four years till the year 2007. For the next five years, i.e. from 2007 to 2012 he played for Los Angeles Galaxy. In the year 2009 and 2010 he played for Milan (loan). He played his last game for Paris Saint- Germaine in the year 2013.
