David Koch was born on 3rd May 1940 in Wichita, Kansas, United States. His birth name was David Hamilton Koch. He is an American Businessman, philanthropist, political activist, and chemical engineer. Talking about his occupation he is a co-owner and executive vice president of Koch Industries which is a conglomerate that is the second largest privately held company in the United States. He is a survivor of USAir Flight 1493 in the year 1991. As recorded in the year 2012, he is the fourth richest person of America and in the year 2013, he received the tag of the wealthiest resident of New York in the year 2013. He received CSHL Double Helix Medal Honoree in the year 2007.

Early Life


He was born in Wichita, Kansas and was born to mother, Mary and Fred Chase Koch who was a chemical engineer. He has 3 more siblings. He went MIT and earned a bachelors in the year 1962 and a master degree in the year 1963 in chemical engineering. Not only is this, he is a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In the year 1970, he joined Koch Industries and after nine years, he became the President of Koch Engineering.



Taking about his career, he is a Libertarian Party’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 1980 presidential election. According to David Koch, he gave his own Vice Presidential campaign $100,000 a month after being chosen as Ed Clark’s running mate. In 1984, David Koch served as the Chairman of the board of directors and donated to the free-market citizens for a Sound Economy. He contributed $7 million to the Public Broadcasting Service. Talking about his philanthropy he donated $20 million to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and a total of $185 million to MIT since joining the MIT Corporation in 1988. He has been in politics throughout his life.  Something about political views, he promote individual liberty and free market principles and supports gay marriages, stem cell research. Not only is this, he opposes the war on drugs and is little bit of skeptical about global warming. David Koch donated $30 million to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, $25 million to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, $15 million to New York Presbyterian Hospital Weil Cornell Medical Center, $25 million to the Hospital for Special Surgery and $5 million to the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles to create a center for hearing restoration.

This theater is used for opera and ballet performance Koch has donated $100 million in the year 2008 for the renovation of the theater the capacity of the theater is around 2,586 people which has marvelous restrooms with gold paneled ceiling and held with mechanical lifts also the lobby is created with modern art. Not only is this, the David Koch Foundation has made $750 million donation for cancer research, sustaining and promoting art and cultural institutions, development of medical centers, conducting public  policy  study and support of educational institutions. Overall he donated $100 million to create” David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research” and $25 million to each “M.D Anderson Cancer Center”, Houston and “The Hospital for Special Surgery”, New York. Talking about more of his donations, he donated $35 million just to renovate the dinosaur hall in the National Museum of National History. This business tycoon was recorded as one of the single largest donation in the history of Washington based Museum in 112 year of history.  He is very tour crazy and spends $500,000 per week floating around the Mediterranean for several weeks on a 246 foot mega Yatch called Leander.
