John Joseph “Jack” Nicholson is an American actor, producer, writer and film director. He was born in New Jersey on April 22, 1937. In a long and prosperous career, Jack Nicholson has portrayed challenging and unique roles, and Oscar winning performances many of which include dark portrayals of psychopathic and neurotic characters. The 12 Oscar nominations in his career until now has made him the most nominated actor in the history of Academy Awards.

Nicholson has won the Academy Award for Best Actor twice, once for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and the other for As Good as It Gets. His breathtaking performance in the 1983 film Terms of Endearment won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Only two other actors, Walter Brennan and Daniel Day-Lewis, have won the same number of Academy Awards as Jack Nicholson i.e. three. Amongst his other notable performances are his roles such as Frank Costello in The Departed, Jack Torrance in The Shining and the Joker in 1989’s Batman. Along with three Oscars, he has also won six Golden Globe Awards and received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. In 1994, he became the youngest actor ever to have been awarded the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. Nicholson was married only once in his entire lifetime for a brief period of 6 years from 1962-1968. He had two kids from the marriage a son and a daughter. He dated Michelle Phillips in the early 1970s. Between 1973 and 1990, Nicholson had a high-profile but sporadic relationship with actress Anjelica Huston that included periods of overlap with other women, including Danish model Winnie Hollman. From 1989 to 1994 was dating actress Rebecca Broussard; they had two children together: daughter Lorraine and son Raymond.

Like all celebrities Nicholson has had his fare share of controversies. In 1994, he was accused of accused of vandalism and criminal charges were filed against him by Robert Blank. After accusing blank of cutting him off in traffic, Nicholson used his golf club to bash the windshield and roof of Blank’s car. The charges against Nicholson were dropped after he apologized to Blank and an undisclosed settlement was reached between the two which also included a $ 500,000 check from Nicholson.

This incident wasn’t the last time Nicholson’s temper made the news.  Nicholson is a fan of the Los Angeles and New York Yankees . He has held a Laker season ticket since 1970 and has held court side season tickets for the past 25 years next to the opponent’s benches at both The Forum and the Staples Center.. A known legendary fan of the Los Angeles Lakers professional basketball team, he has been threatened more than once with ejection for yelling at the referees and losing his temper at them.


Nicholson certainly had a long and prosperous career. He is without doubt regarded as one of the most talented actors ever the world of cinema has seen. And he continues to dazzle everyone with his performances. In November 2013, there were reports that Nicholson is going to retire from acting because of problems relating to memory but hours later the reports were dismissed.
