Jennifer Lynn Connelly is an American Actress and Model who is well known for her roles in movies like A Beautiful Mind, Once upon a time in America, Hulk, Dark Water, Blood Diamond and The Day the Earth Stood Still among many others. She began her career as a child model when she was just ten years old. Connelly did modelling for print advertisements and television commercials before making her acting debut.
Early Life-
Connelly was born on December 12, 1970 in Cairo, New York to Ilene and Gerard Connelly. Her mother was Jewish and an antiques dealer and her father was a clothing manufacturer who was of Irish and Norwegian descent. Connelly was raised mainly in Brooklyn heights where she attended Saint Ann’s, a private school dedicated to both arts and academics. Her family moved to Woodstock, New York in 1976 but returnedfour years later to Brooklyn Heights and Connelly returned to Saint Ann’s. She studied English for two years at Yale University in 1988 and 1989, before transferring to Stanford University in 1990 to study drama.
Acting Career-
Connelly got her first acting break when she was selected to play the role of an aspiring dancer and actress Deborah Gelly in Sergio Leone’s gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America (1984). While Once Upon a Time in America was being filmed, Connelly made her first television appearance in Tales of the Unexpected episode “Stranger in Town”. Tales of the Unexpected is a British television series which aired between 1979 and 1988 whose early episodes were based on short stories by Roald Dahl. Connelly’s first leading role was in Dario Argento’s 1985 film Phenomena where she played a girl who has psychic powers. Connelly gained public recognition with Jim Henson’s 1986 film Labyrinth in which she played Sarah.
In 2001, she played the role of Alicia Nash in the American biographical drama film A Beautiful Mind based on the life of John Nash, a Nobel Laureate in Economics. For her portrayal in this film Connelly was nominated and won many awards including a Golden Globe, an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress,and a BAFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Her latest works includes Winter’s Tale, Noah, Aloft and Shelter directed by husband Paul Bettany.
Personal Life-
Connelly was in a relationship with The Rocketeer co-star Billy Campbell for five years before they broke up in 1996. She have a son, Kai, from her relationship with photographer David Dugan. On January 1, 2003, Jennifer Connelly married actor Paul Bettany, whom she had met while working on A Beautiful Mind. The couple have two children –Stellan and Agnes Lark.
