He is the son of Shirley May (Mother) who is a Jewish and Leonard Orleans Simmons (Father) who is an Episcopalian. He was raised in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Though his parents are from different religion but he later converted to Catholism and attended Cor Jesu High School at a early age, this school later changed its name to Brother Martin High School. He weighed 268 pounds when he was graduated from high school. It is reported that he was suffering from the obesity problem throughout his adolescence. When he was young, he worked a s a priest. He was not satisfied with the unhealthy diet methods and the unhealthy routine soon he became the fitness guru. He later opened his own exercise studio called the Anatomy Asylum. He is helping other people to lose weight since 35 years. He is featured on various TV shows including whose Line Is It Anyway? CHiPs, Saturday Night Live, The Larry Sanders Show and Arrested Development and Bringing Up Buster. Not only have the shows he worked in May advertisements for Spirit, Yoplait, and Herbal Essence Shampoos etc. he documented the book in which he introduced the programs for the physical fitness named Reach for Fitness: A Special Book of Exercises for the Physically Challenged. Simmons was a guest along with Celine Dion on Roise O’ Donnell Show on November 18, 1997. In the year 1986 on Amazing stories season 1 in the 10th episode, Simmons played himself in Steven Spielberg. Richard and Howard were two best friends whose friendship sometimes was discussed on the air in the radio shows.
