Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, The sultan of Brunei was born in 1946 in the royal family of Brunei. The Sultan attained his education from Victoria Institution in Kuala Lampur and later attended Royal Military Academy in United Kingdom. After his father got abdicated in 1967, he became the Sultan of Brunei in 1968. According to the constitution of Brunei, a Sultan is the head of the state. He has full authority and includes emergency powers too. He is also the prime minister and minister of defense and finance of Brunei. Along with the position of Minister of Defense, he also serves as the commander of Royal Brunei Armed forces, Honorary Admiral of Fleet in Royal Navy, and also an Honorary General in Indonesian and British armed forces. He later appointed himself as an IGP of the Brunei police force. He also established University of Brunei Darussalam along with different colleges. His educational system is attended by more then 106,000 Students. Under his tenure Medicines and medical attention is free of charge to policemen, members of Royal Armed forces and Children in Government hospitals and clinics. Other facilities available to the people of Brunei include Housing plan schemes, Land allocation schemes, monthly pension schemes for elderly, and allowance for people with physical disability and widows. He recently declared himself as Prime minister and President and recently he designated his successor to his eldest son Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah.

Sultan first got married to his current Consort Anak Saleha in 1965. The Sultan and Saleha are first cousins and the couple together has six children. Two sons and four daughters. Sultan later got married again to Isteri Hajah Mariam. however the couple decided to part ways soon and divorced in 2003. He later got married to his third wife Azrina Mazhar Hakim in 2005 at a private ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. The couple together has two children. Later the got divorced in 2010. Currently Sultan is living happily with his First wife Anak Saleha.
