EARLY CAREER
At age four, Benson began to dance competitively, specializing in styles of ballet, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical dance. By age 5, she had appeared in various musical films and had began modelling in dance catalogs. By the time she was 8, she began modelling under the Ford Modelling Agency in various print advertisements. She also appeared in a Lil’ Romeo music video as a Schoolgirl in 2002. She made a brief appearance in an episode of Zoey 101in 2005. She has also appeared in music videos for NLT’s “That Girl”, One Call’s “Blacklight” and Hot Chelle Rae’s “Honestly”

She played the role of Abigail Deveraux (commonly abbreviated to Abby), the oldest child of the couple Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton. She worked on the show till May 2007, when her character left town to go to London after a conflict with one of the central characters, never to return to the show again.

She began her career in films with a guest role as one of the Six Chicks in 13 going on 30 (2004) and played the role of Carson in Bring it on: In It to Win It (2007). To act in the lead role of this movie, she had to end her contract with NBC’s Days of Our Lives. In 2008, she went on to play a witch disguised as a cheerleader in an episode of popular American TV series Supernatural. Later that year, she appeared in the Lifetime made-for-television original film Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal where she played head cheerleader Brooke. The movie is based on the true story which took place in McKinney North High School in Texas. She also landed a supporting role in Bart got a room, which aired mainly on film festivals in 2008 before having a limited release in 2009.

In 2009, Benson signed her first contract with ABC when she agreed to be part of the TV show Eastwick. The show was based on the novel The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike. Joanna Frankel, Katherine Gardener, and Roxanne Torcoletti were three dissatisfied women living in Eastwick, a town in New England. Yearning for excitement in their lives, each of the women desperately make a wish for “something to change”. The following day, a furtive stranger named Darryl Van Horne arrives and begins courting each of the women in turn. Darryl eventually informs the women about their talents and encourages them to explore their unique abilities. However, as the series progresses, the three unlikely friends begin to worry about Darryl’s ultimate intentions. She played the role of Mia Torcoletti- Roxanne Torcoletti’s daughter. The show only ran for a duration of 13 episodes before ABC cancelled it, but by then it had already gained a cult status and following among its viewers. Little did Ashley know that something greater was in store for her.
Shortly after Eastwick was pulled off air, Benson was signed on to play the role of Hanna Marin in ABC’s hit show Pretty Little Liars. The show’s pilot episode aired on June 8 2010, and from then on, Benson has been an integral part of the show.
