Katherine Heigl is an American actor and producer, best known for her role as a doctor in sitcom Grey’s Anatomy and movies such as The Ugly Truth,27 dresses and Life as we know it.She was the cover model of Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan.She is married to Josh Kelley.




Katherine Marie Heigl was born on November 24,1978 at West End,Washington D.C. in U.S.A.She moved to Virginia,Denver and finally settled down in Connecticut with her family.She attended New Caanan High School in the Connecticut. Heigl dropped out of  High School after her sophomore year to pursue her career in Hollywood.



Heigl’s life took a turn when she was 9, after an aunt sent pictures of her to modeling agencies. She signed with the international agency Welhelmina Models as child model.

She debuted with a magazine advertisement. She appeared in her first feature film, That Night, at age 11, and took her first lead role at age 14 in 1994’s My Father the Hero. In 1994, she appeared on the cover of Seventeen Magazine.

Despite an increased focus on acting, she still modeled extensively, appearing regularly in magazines.In the same year  Heigl’s parents divorced and her mother was diagnosed with cancer. After her mother’s successful recovery, Heigl and her mother moved to Los Angeles to try to break into Hollywood.




In 1996, Katherine Heigl was cast as Isabel, an alien human hybrid in the scince fiction drama Rosewell,which eventually ran for just three seasons.She also appeared on the magazines namely TV Guide,Teen,Life and FHM as she continued her modelling career along with acting career.

After Roswell was canceled in 2002, Heigl appeared in several made-for-TV movies, including a prequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and two Lifetime movies based on the Janet Oke novels Love’s Enduring Promise and  Love Comes Softly.

She was also starred in the movies like 100 girls and Valentine.




Grey’s Anatomy premiered in March 2005 and immediately became a smash hit, elevating Heigl and her co-stars’ profiles in Hollywood. In Grey’s Anatomy she played a role of a medical intern Dr.Isobel “Lzzie” Stevens.Following the same year she was also cast in the movie Side Effects. With her mother, she has been an activist for the past several years, speaking on behalf of donor organizations.



After the release of the movie Knocked Out her fees  hiked as the movie did a good business and her role was critically praised.On July 2009,The Ugly Truth was released in which she worked with Ashton Kutcher.In the same year Life as we know it in which she worked with Josh Duhamel.Heigl left Grey’s Anatomy in 2010.


Abishag Productions was formed in 2007 by Katherine and Nancy Heigl.In 2011, she starred in romantic comedy New Year’s Eve alongside Jon Bon Jovi. Recently it was reported that Heigl would return to television in an NBC drama series named” State of Affairs” about a CIA attache.



In June 2006, Heigl became engaged to singer Josh Kelley, whom she had met a year earlier on the set of his music video for Only You.They exchanged vows on December 23,2007 in Park Utah. In September 2009, the couple adopted a daughter, Nancy Leigh “Naleigh” Kelley. Naleigh  was born with a heart defect and underwent open heart surgery before leaving Korea. In April 2012, Kelley and Heigl adopted a second daughter, Adalaide Marie Hope Kelley.

Heigl caught more heavy flak in late 2007 for statements that she made during an interview with Vanity Fair magazine. During the interview, she called Grey’s Anatomy storyline at the time “a ratings ploy” and professed her strong opposition to the portrayals of women in Knocked Up. Soon after the interview was published, Heigl was vilified by the press, called ungrateful, pretentious and the like by many critics. This criticism continued after Heigl withdrew herself from Emmy consideration in June 2008.



Heigl has worked with Best Friends Animal Society.The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation (JDHF) was founded by Nancy and Katherine Heigl to increase awareness of inhumane animal treatment and support efforts for rescue, medical care, training and placement needs in the Greater Los Angeles area.Heigl and her mother, Nancy, then started Heigl’s Hounds of Hope which operates as part of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation.


On behalf of PETA, she signed a letter to members of the Utah legislature, urging them to reject a law that would make undercover filming in factory farms a criminal offense.She also supports AIDS healthcare foundation and Chrysalis.




Katherine Heigl and her husband Josh Kelley purchased the lavish traditional looking mansion in September 2007 for $2.55 million in Los Feliz,California.It is 3,690 sq.feet.



Heigl owns a white Audi Q5 and a burgundy colored Range Rover SUV.

Heigl has won Emmy Awards for Oustanding Supporting in Drama Series for Grey’s Anatomy in 2007.She also did won People’s Choice Awards for Favourite TV Drama Actress in 2010 and Favourite Female TV Star in 2008.She also bagged Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding performance by an Ensemble in Drama Series for Grey’s Anatomy in 2006.


She has been nominated for Golden Globe Awards for Best performance by an actress in a Supporting Role for Grey’s Anatomy both in 2006 and 2007.She was also nominated for MTV Movie Awards in the category of Best Performance for Knocked Up in 2008.She was nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding performance by an Ensemble in Drama Series for Grey’s Anatomy in 2005 as well as 2007.


Heigl appeared in the FHM and Maxim calendars, FHMs annual “100 Sexiest Women in the World”.In May 2006, Maxim awarded her #12 on their annual Hot 100List as well as voted the 19th “Sexiest Woman in the World” by readers of FHM magazine. Heigl was announced the Most Desirable Woman of 2008, according to AskMen.com Ranked #72 in Stuff magazine’s “102 Sexiest Women In The World” (2002). Ranked as #55 in FHM’s “100 Sexiest Women in the World 2005”  special supplement. (2005). She was named one of Entertainment Weekly’s Top 25 Entertainers Of The Year (2007).
