Adams was born in Italy, in the year 1974. She has six siblings. Her parents are Richard Kent and Kathryn Adams. Interestingly, her mother was a semi-professional bodybuilder. She was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. Adams is a singer! She loves singing. She was in the school choir all throughout her school life. Amy Adams wanted to become a ballerina. She trained as an apprentice at a local dance company for the same. Her parents got divorced when she was only eleven years old.
Adams did not go to college. She decided that she wasn’t cut out to be a ballerina. After finishing high school, she worked as a hostess at Hooters and quit the job after only three weeks, when she had saved enough to buy herself her first car.

Adams started out as a dancer. While she was out getting some treatment done for a pulled muscle, she auditioned for the lead role in Drop Dead Gorgeous and got the main lead. Persuaded by Kirstie Alley, Adams moved to Los Angeles and she often describes her first year as dark and bleak. From 2000-2002, Adams appeared in a lot of television series like That 70′s Show, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, The West Wing and Psycho Beach Party. She played the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Catch Me If You Can.
Adams’ career really took off with the independent movie called Junebug. She won a Special Jury Prize for her performance. She received quite a few awards for Best Supporting Actress. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited Adams to become a member in the year 2006. Later, in 2007, she starred in Enchanted. The movie was a commercial success and was also well received by the critics. The movie really increased Adams’ media exposure. She appeared on the cover of magazines like Elle and Vanity Fair.
