Amy Lou Adams is an American actress known for her roles in movies like Enchanted, The Leap Year, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master and Man of Steel. She played a supporting role in a Oscar-nominated movie Her, and was a con artist in the movie American Hustlers. Adams’ career did not really have the best of starts. Success came to her in her later years. She made her debut with the movie Drop Dead Gorgeous. Adams’ starred in a number of B-grade movies and also guest starred in quite a few television shows. The movie Junebug got Adams really noticed. Her role in the movie Doubt earned her a lot of nominations. The role also brought to her a lot of critical appraisal and fame.


Adams was born in Italy, in the year 1974. She has six siblings. Her parents are Richard Kent and Kathryn Adams. Interestingly, her mother was a semi-professional bodybuilder. She was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. Adams is a singer! She loves singing. She was in the school choir all throughout her school life. Amy Adams wanted to become a ballerina. She trained as an apprentice at a local dance company for the same. Her parents got divorced when she was only eleven years old.

Adams did not go to college. She decided that she wasn’t cut out to be a ballerina. After finishing high school, she worked as a hostess at Hooters and quit the job after only three weeks, when she had saved enough to buy herself her first car.


Adams started out as a dancer. While she was out getting some treatment done for a pulled muscle, she auditioned for the lead role in Drop Dead Gorgeous and got the main lead. Persuaded by Kirstie Alley, Adams moved to Los Angeles and she often describes her first year as dark and bleak. From 2000-2002, Adams appeared in a lot of television series like That 70’s Show, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, The West Wing and Psycho Beach Party. She played the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Catch Me If You Can.

Adams’ career really took off with the independent movie called Junebug. She won a Special Jury Prize for her performance. She received quite a few awards for Best Supporting Actress. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited Adams to become a member in the year 2006. Later, in 2007, she starred in Enchanted. The movie was a commercial success and was also well received by the critics. The movie really increased Adams’ media exposure. She appeared on the cover of magazines like Elle and Vanity Fair. She went on to do movies like Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Doubt, Sunshine Cleaning, Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, Julie & Julia, Leap Year, The Fighter, The Master, The Muppets and Man of Steel, Her and American Hustle.

Adams made her stage debut and first appearance in theatre in 13 years portraying the role of the Baker’s wife in Into The Woods at The Public Theatre in Central Park. Upcoming projects are Big Eyes and Object of Beauty.


Amy Adams won the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Junebug, Best Cast for The Fighter and Best Actress in a Comedy and Best Cast for the movie American Hustle. She also won a Golden Globe Award for the Best Actress- Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, for the movie American Hustle. In 2013, Adams won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for the movie American Hustle.
