Ryan Rodney Reynolds is a Canadian film and television actor, known for playing characters like Michael Bergen on the ABC sitcom “Two Guys and a Girl”, Billy Simpson in the YTV Canadian teen soap opera “Hillside” as well as Marvel Comics characters Hannibal King in “Blade: Trinity”. Ryan Reynolds is a very versatile actor who has played numerous phenomenon characters in scores of movies.  He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on October 23rd, 1967.

Early Life

Ryan Rodney Reynolds is the youngest of four brothers. Reynolds “was a really nervous kid”, he told GQ magazine. His father, James, is a retired Royal Canadian Mounted policeman who later became a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tammy, is a retail store saleswoman. Reynolds is of Irish ancestry and was raised as a Roman Catholic. He graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver in 1994. He later attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University, also in Vancouver, until dropping out.

Career Debut

After working a string of odd jobs in Vancouver as a busboy/waiter at a yacht club serving rich kids, and later , doing stints at a nightclub and grocery store, Reynolds thought he would try his hand in acting-ironic, since he ended up failing drama class at the age of 12. Creative ambition had set in at a young age when, as a kid, Reynolds had formed an improve comedy group in Vancouver called “Yellow Snow”. At the age of 15, Reynolds acting career began when he starred in his television debut Billy Simpson in “Hillside”, a live action TV series that aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and on YTV in Canada as Fifteen. It set the actor on his way providing him with a nomination for a Young Artist Award in 1993.

Unfortunately, after the series ended, Reynolds returned to Vancouver where he struggled to find the true breakout role he dreamed of. He was cast in a series of forgettable made-for-TV movies which were not so popular.

His Prosperity                         

In 1997, Reynolds got a breakthrough when he landed the role of medical student Michael “Berg” Bergen in “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place” (USA, 1998-2001) which soon became a hit. Reynolds starred in the National Lampoon movie” Van Wilder”. He also cameoed in “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” as a nurse, appeared in “The In-Laws” with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks, as well as the Canadian production “Foolproof”.

He played a waiter named Monty in “Waiting…” in 2005. Reynolds also appeared in a romantic comedy “Just Friends”. He played the protagonist in the film “Definitely Maybe”, which was released in 2008.

He has appeared in the second season finale of the television series “Scrubs” and made a guest appearance in “Douchebag in the City”. He has starred in movies like “The Proposal” and “Adventureland”.

Besides playing humorous characters, Reynolds has also featured in some tough action movies like “Blade: Trinity”, remake of the 1979 horror film “The Amityville Horror” and crime action film “Smokin’ Aces”

His Spanish and American thriller “Buried”, was screened at the’ Sundance’ film festival. In June 2010, Reynolds was invited to join the ‘Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’. Reynolds portrayed superhero Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in Warner Bros. film “Green Lantern”, which was released on June 17, 2011 in 3D. This made him one of the few actors to headline in films based on both Marvel and DC characters.

Owing to his closeness to his father, Reynolds, in October 2008, wrote for “The Huffington Post” regarding his plan to run the “New York City Marathon” for his father, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease.
